Default Net Neutrality

Have you guy's been following this at all??

If not, you should be!!
There is an FCC vote coming up on 12/14, I believe and if they get what they want, we will all be paying additional fees for services we are already paying for anyway!

You should check it out and make your voices heard.

Is this because so many have "cut the cord?"

What does a Vasectomy have to do with it?

Clearly you are not educated on exactly what they have planned.

Clearly you don't realize that Obama instituted Net Neutrality to redistribute innovation and investment to those less willing in invest which in turn resulted in less innovation and investment and the slow speeds we have today. Good riddance to another Obama redistribution gamut.

Cord Cutting Existed Before Net Neutrality; Cord Cutting Will Exist After Net Neutrality:

Hang on to your hats for a flood of anti-cord cutting stories telling you that with the end of net neutrality the world will end and, more importantly, you might as well sign back up for cable TV.

Yesterday the FCC announced that they would vote and switch broadband from a Title II communication service to a Title I service and move the regulations of broadband Internet back to the system that was used prior to 2015. Remember we have only had net neutrality for just over two years.

I became a cord cutter in 2012, so for most of my time as a cord cutter there was no net neutrality; however, we are already seeing a flood of stories saying it will now be impossible to become a cord cutter or stream content. The stories all end the same way: You might as well just go and sign up for cable TV today.

Remember where many of these stories come from. The majority have close ties to the cable industry. Also, negative news stories bring a huge number of views that turn into a lot of money. So make sure to take them with a grain of salt and don’t throw in the towel on some perceived threat.

Here are my recommendations on what to do about net neutrality.

First, if you are upset about this make sure to call your representative in Congress. Let your voice be heard as there has already been talk of a bill in Congress to make net neutrality a law not just a legal rule from the FCC. Posting online is great but will unlikely be seen by the people who matter.

Second, take a deep breath and wait. At this time nothing has happened and there will be plenty of time to worry once we know what will happen next. Yet we may have an idea as all we need to do is think back 3 years for an idea of what the internet was like before net neutrality.

Home Internet even today has many issues and is overpriced. My real hope is 5G home Internet. Once we have 5 or maybe even 10 options for home Internet, we will start to see prices come down, data caps go away, and true net neutrality comes into play.

Currently, companies like Verizon, AT&T, Dish, Charter, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Google all have a target date of 2020 to have half of the United States covered with 5G home Internet.

Once that happens you will be able to vote with your dollar and give it to the company that gives you the best service.

For example, those that have subscriptions to Netflix or similar service, would pay an additional fee (I have heard costs ranging from $9.99 - $19.99) to their internet provider in order to watch Netflix.
Same for social media. Want to go on Twitter, Facebook, Yelp or others? Guess what? You'll have to subscribed to the "Social Media Package".

The FCC was required to have a Public Comment Period to hear from the public. 90% of the comments were IN FAVOR of getting rid of Net Neutrality. However, it was discovered that 99.9% of those 90% were from BOTS!!
The Justice Department has started an investigation in to this as well.

First of all, this is the most parrotted ignorant statement ever shared, and a flat out lie.

First off, AT&T, Verizon, Comcast are all still investing, none of them have ever said if net neutrality stayed they wouldn't keep investing in their business.

"Oh well they're not laying more line because of this" Of course they're not.

None of them have laid coax or fiber in YEARS. The last mile has always been the most expensive part of construction and they want nothing to do with it anymore. Verizon themselves said YEARS ago they were done laying fiber unless there was a profitable market need.

I do work for one of the giants and have LONG before net neutrality and it did nothing to investments. It wasn't even a blip on the radar on what their long term plans were.

Now talking about "as long as it makes it faster".

Oh so you want faster, well what do you want faster for?
Maybe sports? That'll be an extra $5/mo.

Man your kids need informational sites for school. Well you can have dialup speeds or you can stop them from freaking out about how slow it is for another $3/mo!

While this is fake, this is what you should be expecting if net neutrality goes away:

Yes, if you want faster speeds you will pay more but at least we will have that option. Right now, we are all in the slow lane due to Obama-era redistribution mandates.

Sorry but you socialist lost the election and the capitalist are back in charge. The day of everyone gets a trophy is over and there will now be winners and losers.

Yeah? Slow lane because of obama-era mandates? Which one is it again that does that? Please, for all of our benefit, share which one.

Quite frankly, I'm very content and satisfied with paying $36.00/mo for the internet service I have now and I certainly do not consider it to be in "the slow lane". I click on a site and it opens in the blink of an eye. I watch movies continuously with no problem. It might take 5 seconds or so to download a large set of drawings. Big deal. What more do you want???

Why in the hell would I want to pay $100 or more (you know thats what those packages would end being after all the additional fees and extras) for the same service I'm paying $36.00 for now???

And look, I hate BO as much as the next person, or more, but this ain't his gig. Net Neutrality has existed since Al Gore invented it back in the 90's! (That's a joke.........)

It is the way the internet was intended to be used

I would love to know why, if net neutrality is so horrible, is Google (Alphabet), really the only major corporation still laying fiber in the last mile, against it?

Clearly, you don't understand how this works or have been over indoctrinated by free-market ideas. Sometimes regulation is needed. This is one of those cases. Its not an Obama conspiracy.

Yea, more Federal regulation and more taxes is what is needed in this case. .

Anytime the government is in charge of “redistribution” you can be guaranteed it is nothing more than a form of censorship designed to keep down the voices of those who speak against them.
