I'll always be grateful to Sears for teaching me the true meaning of "bait and switch".

I admire any company that can figure out a way to keep their doors open. At the moment at least some of Sears is doing just that. Hopefully they can figure out how to do great with customer service and figure out how to help people and stay in business.

Just saw today where the CEO of Amazon reached a 100 billion in net worth. That could've been Sears

The only thing I learned from Sears is that apparently you can get free electric and rent when you are a retail anchor store... because I never could see anyone buying a single thing to justify keeping the lights on. It was the oddest thing. The store is always totally empty. No workers, not people, nothing. Just lights on, inventory, and air conditioning. Not sure how they did it.

Yup. And I think Walmart is next. To this day, they still do not take the Internet seriously.

Bezos is going to eat everyone's lunch. It is sort of sad.

Good by and good riddance. Not sure how Ackman can keep the doors open with all his lackluster takeovers.

Only thing left of quality was their hand tools and they have suck for years.

A full set of Craftsman tools for my 16th Christmas enabled me to work on anything and everything....

At least everything I owned! I still have that old set today, and I turn 70 this month. Two ratchets were replaced but I still have all the sockets and most of the wrenches.

Came home from the Navy in 1970 and had a Sears card and bought our first TV.

They also carried a full replacement air conditioner system complete with charged freon lines that I installed in a house we remodeled. That was cool....

Lots of good memories and many dollars spent there. Their two locations near me seem to stay busy...

Hopefully they will continue to hang in there.

Yep, Walmart is going after Amazon's online sales including free delivery on many items.

Wal Mart ain't going anywhere. They are coming after Amazon with a vengeance.

Sears is a sad example of what happens when a company refuses to change with the times. They could have been Amazon.

They will die along with malls, but they are a slice of true Americana. How many guys have tools bought from Sears that you use for everything? I know I have sets from my dad and granddad that all came from Sears. 50 years ago the Sears Christmas catalog was what every kid looked forward to.

Heck, there are houses beside of us that came out of a Sears catalog.

They have the perfect infrastructure already in place...and they're smart enough to know it.

Walmart is going after Amazon big time right now, they’re beta testing same day delivery of online items in some areas where the employees deliver on their way home for some extra money but free to the customer. Trying to find advantages where they can to retain some of that business, smart move.

I worked at Sears for 2 years in college, the only reason they’ve hung around this long, in my opinion, is someone at some point was very real estate savvy. They own the majority of their locations even when connected to a mall and have developed most of the industrial parks where their factories and repair facilities are. Smart use of their assets when they were abundant has carried them along for a long time after they should’ve lasted.

Same here I have the original set of Craftsman tools I got when I was 14 years old so that I would leave dad's snap on stuff alone. And I still have that very same kit in my boat for use while offshore.

Wasn't that long ago that buying a Craftsman tool set at Sears meant buying a quality American product that would last for life.

Then that became the only reason to go to Sears. Then Craftsman was shipped to China and now it is garbage. And now there's no reason whatsoever to go to Sears.
