Default Coming to Terms..........

So many don't believe and we got into this conversation the other night.

I've always believed that a man/woman or child only truly comes to terms with our creator "After" they have suffered enough.

Or experienced a life threating experience or became maimed.

I know personally, I should have been dead a LONG time ago so there's no way on earth I can deny we have a creator, aka God.
God apparently has some kind of plan for me, even in my older age.
You aren't guaranteed today or tomorrow so we can only live life 1 minute at a time and try to help those in need who truly need a helping hand.

Is it really so horribly hard for people to be kind to one another?
I know there's really bad people, aka; scumbags out there and that's why Dan Wesson was born.

There's more to life than how much money your can hoard.

Not a holy roller, nor do I even go to church but I do believe & have faith.

We have raised all of our kids with the awareness of God, mandatory to say grace at meals and when they were little prayers at bed time.
Beyond that, it's their choice as adults.

Don't have a clue why I'm even posting this thread other than the Man wants me to and so I am.

What's your input on this subject?

PS,
There is no right or wrong answer here so feel free to chime in even if you don't believe.

Honestly, so long as there is religion in the world, people will not be kind to each other.

You and I seem to be very much alike. I was raised Catholic, but it took a catestropic event in my life, followed by a dozen or so "living hell on earth years", to truly understand and believe without a shadow of doubt that God exists.

Sad that it takes horrific moments for people to come together as one and put others first. aka..a devestating hurrican.

I would say it is true for me. When I was younger I didn't think about it much, but as I have gotten older it is something I have learned to believe in. I also do it for our son. I'm not a holy roller either, bit I figure if there is a big guy upstairs, I could use all the help I can get to get a ticket in!

Rip, I hear ya. I am not a very religous person, to the extent that my wife is Catholic and we have raised our son, Catholic. I'm Presbyterian. I should have been dead several times before I was 18. To think about some of the stupid shit I did gives me chills and a wave of guilt that I have to shake off from time to time. I truly believe there is a Devil and that there is a God, because the Devil led me down a very ugly road but God, in his own way, guided me to where I am today and kept me away from real disaster.

The positive I take from this is the experience to raise my son to be a genuine, good hearted Man and not let him make the same mistakes that I did. I'm very pleased with my efforts, thus far...........

It was exactly the opposite for me. I had considered myself agnostic for years, but after a traumatic spine surgery that left me in absolute misery for a couple months, I made the decision that there couldn't be a god because a god wouldn't put people through so much pain. I was in so much pain for one two week period that I didn't sleep for six days, and the only reason I'm still here today is because my mother was staying with me and I couldn't commit suicide with her there. So today I am an atheist, and after what I went through I am no longer afraid to die. I do not want to die but the idea that's I will die someday in the near future does not bother me at all. And after that revelation I don't have the need to believe in something that cannot be proven to exist.

I'm with you Riptied. God is saving me for some purpose. Honestly, I'm afraid to do anything awesome just in case that's why I'm still around. My church us always promoting love and forgiveness and I am better for it.

My wife is very religious and I do go to church regularly. I have prayed at different times. I will likely get ripped for this but I'm a "show me" kind of person. I wish I could be totally convinced that there is a higher power but I am agnostic.

We're 2 peas in a pod as far as beliefs. My wife goes to church very occasionally and actually volunteers during the week more than she goes on Sunday's. Surprisingly my 15/16 year old gets involved in weekly church events all the time....and loves it!

That one's easy - if there was no cruelty, belief in any higher being would plummet. It's only when bad things happen to good people that we want to ask "why" and attribute it to a higher being.

If the world was all happy, no one would believe in religion. If good things happen, we don't care why. If bad things happen, we want to know that there's a reason, hence religion.

Religion is the cause of many bad things.

Funny that. Agnostic and atheistic governments were all hell on their own people and their neighbors. They needed no guidance from "religion."

Hint USSR, Pol Pot, Red China, Fidel's Cuba

I'd phrase it something like.....so long as there are people in the world, people will not be kind to each other.

Great Thread.
I was raised catholic but didn't come to the Lord until I was 56. We were aboard a ship coming back from Alaska. Long story, but I was having a conversation with someone about why the world was the way it was. God spoke VERY CLEARLY to me that it was time for me to straighten up and follow him. My life is 180 degrees different than it was.
I found a church that teaches the Bible (not all of them do) and Bible study has answered all of the questions some of you have asked. God has always punished evil doers. He also forgives. God gives each of us a free will to follow or not follow. Your choice. As for why bad things happen to good people...the bible teaches "Lean not unto your own understanding." Proverbs: 3

I can't handle religion. They all get between God and me. They bring out my judgemental self and I don't like it. I have the power to make my day a good one or a horrible one. If I try to run it without trying to follow God's will I will surely be miserable. If I keep doing the right thing and seek out all the things I have to be grateful for then I can have a great day. I also think I could have been dead many times from all the things I did. Putting myself in danger is bad enough, but putting my family in danger was really terrible. God kept them safe and has other plans for me. I will be watching and listening and do whatever I need to do.
I don't see how anyone can look up into a clear night sky and see all there is out there and not believe it was created by some power, not just a "bang".
