Default Dinner at the Waffle House

I was sitting at the counter at the local Waffle House and kept picking up bits and pieces of the conversation of one of the waitresses, she kept saying she was scared and she didn't want to go to jail. The cook suggested she throw herself at the mercy of the court. The other cook walked over to the jukebox and played Johnny Cash's Folston Blues.

As I was paying, I asked "well....you didn't shoot anybody did you?" and the cook said naaaaa.....she kidnapped someone.

She protested, "I did not! I went over to blah blah's house because they owed me some money and I wouldn't let them leave until they paid me. I even called the cops!"

I asked if they arrested her and and she said they did and her court date was tomorrow and again said she was scared and didn't want to go to jail.

I took a guess and said "Well.....it's probably your first time, they'll probably take that into account and go easy on you."

She said, "It's not my first time......it's my first felony, I don't know what I'm going to tell the judge tomorrow."

I said just let your lawyer do all the talking.

"Lawyer?"

"I don't have a lawyer."

The song is still playing on the jukebox.....

I told her I would not plead.....I'd ask for a jury trial and since you can't afford an attorney.....ask for an attorney too. The cooks agreed it was a good plan.

I didn't tell her that OJ Simpson was sent to prison for basically the same thing. Good luck to the Waffle House waitress.

Guy in the office showed me a hurricane related article yesterday, can't remember site it was posted.

There is actually a Waffle House scale that measures the severity of hurricanes.

Green: Waffle House is open and serving full menu.
Yellow: Waffle house is open but with limited menu
Red: Waffle House is closed due to storm.

Waffle House code Red means get the Hell out of there.

Waffle House is used by FEMA to gauge storm severity, because they have so many locations in often struck areas.

Waffle House. Cash only. Been years but loved the covered, scattered, smothered, peppered hash browns.

So the Waffle House staff was very talkative and didn't mind sharing details. Maybe it is a valid assumption that most of their customer base is smarter than them.

My first time driving to FL I was craving a Dunkin coffee and after 10 jillion signs for Waffle House the admiral and myself surrendered to a WH breakfast. Ended up pleasantly surprised.
