Default Guns n Roses

Just got back from a Guns n Roses concert.

I wasn't expecting much, I figure their pocket books being empty had something to do with their partial reunion.

But to be perfectly honest this was probably the single most amazing musical performance I've seen in a long time, or possibly ever. I mean they are all in their 50's. They came on at 8:30 and didn't stop until 12:20 ... almost 4 hours with NO INTERMISSION! There were times where the drums, vocals and bass stopped for a period of time. But I don't think Slash ever stopped for the entire 4 hours. He ripped a 10 minute God Father guitar solo then went straight into Sweet Child o Mine. HOW???

Bon Jovi, Metallica and U2 were the last few concerts I went to. I don't remember performers playing for much more than a couple of hours and usually some kind of intermission in the middle.

Slash was an absolute monster, just getting better with age and he still looks the part. Axl was the most incredible, he didn't hold back one bit with his ear piercing primal screams, darting from one side of the stage to the other. Duff, man he looked great... aged like a fine bottle of whiskey. He had a Prince logo on his white guitar which was sweet and he was rock solid. I didn't realize he used his fingers so much on the bass. I always thought he was a picker.

This is the first time I saw Richard Fortus play with GnR, this man is absolutely incredible. I mean he looks the part with the tatoos, kind of a Izzy / Ronnie Wood cross but with mad guitar skills. I hope he stays a permanent member of GnR and not one of these floaters like Finck, Ashba, Buckethead. He really works well off Slash... the two of them did a rendition of Wish You Were Here ... no lyrics, just riffing off each other it was the most beautiful sight and sound to watch and listen to these two trading riffs.

And the drummer Frank Ferrer was an incredible performer too. The entire band was so tight that after the first few songs, I thought that they never sounded to sight live and wondered if it was pre-recorded or something. They played a 34 song set NOT including the special performances like solos. Honestly about 10 of them were covers ranging from Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd, Soundgarden, James Brown.

That's awesome! No shows near me, unfortunately, or I would have just signed up!

Very cool. I'm a huge fan of GnR, and thought about going to the show that is coming to Detroit, but wasn't sure due to past issues GnR have had with Axle.
Slash had a solo album come out a few years ago and it was outstanding. Check it out it if you haven't.

I've seen videos when Axl was doing it on his own and he sounded terrible. I've seen videos since the reunion and know a bunch of people who have seen them live and they all talk about how great it was. My sister and her bf have seen them twice and are planning a 3rd trip to see them.

Saw them in Miami....would have been happy if Axl brought it at a 70% level...they came in a 110%...Axl's voice was way better than anticipated and they rocked out 3 hours straight in a sweltering Miami august heat. Couldn't have enjoyed it more

I weep for the current generations of music. Who in 20-30 years from now will be able to sell out stadiums around the world and post up epic performances like this?

When the bands of our era finally walk off the stage for the last time all that will be left is smartly choreographed dancers working it out behind a lip synching flavor of the day!

Not wasted at all. Axl was a total monster on stage, he gave it all. I see now how he became the lead singer for AC DC as well. For a man of his age, his performance was nothing short of amazing.

To be honest, they sound almost too good to be Gun n Roses. A band like that, you expect something rough around the corners. But I tell you they were spot on the entire night. It was an incredible experience, so shocked that this wasn't just a worn-out rock star show.

Also was great to see Dizzy Reed there. He has an interesting story, a real rough start with GnR at the time when only Axl wanted him in and wasn't accepted, even bullied by the other members. He has been by Axl's side for a long time and never left the band despite even when Axl became recluse. Not a big fan of keyboard players in rock bands but I admire and respect his loyalty.

I wish they played more of Slash's solo stuff but I didn't recognize anything (I may be wrong).

I really like the song "By The Sword" with Slash and Myles Kennedy.

Don't know much about GnR but I had some rough guys working for me back in the 80's that were into heavy metal bands who called them "Guns n Posies".
