Default Sinus Sufferers

I've had three sinus surgeries, the first one was botched and further complicated by c dif from all the IV antibiotics I was on from the infections. The others to try to fix the first but it's just all scar tissue and I don't have sinus function. There's nothing to move the mucous out. I can't fly anymore, saw a buddy of mine a month ago who is a good ent and he told me I really need to have more surgery. Most of my problem is in the frontals but I also have blockage now from infection and polyps.

I was far from overweight but a couple months ago I started training for a bicycle ride from Atlanta to Florida to honor a soldier Kia, have another post on road biking.

Anyway, I haven't been able to smell at all in at least two years. You could put a Clorox botttle under my nose and I smell nothing, just feel the burn.

A few weeks in with my training when I started going longer and stronger, I started smelling during the ride. Last week it stayed longer and i started smelling the soap in the shower, when you haven't smelled in years it's pretty awesome to smell soap even.

I also started being able to breathe out of both nostrils after about an hr or less In and sometimes it stays with me now until I fall asleep. The stuff I cough up now is mostly clear too. The more I train, the better it gets.

Anyway if you have sinus issues or polyps and are wiling to exercise might be worth trying

I feel your pain.

I've had polyps removed twice, had one deviated septum surgery only to have my 2 yo head butt me and break my septum right back to where it was a year later.

I had constant sinus infections and antibiotics still wouldn't make it go away. My sinus infections were year round and miserable could never breath through my nose.

At 36 they removed my tonsils and adenoids and I'm much better I still have constant snot but at least I can breath again. My smell after the surgery has been better but is still hit and miss.

As far as excersize that's something I just started the other day, sticking with it is the hard part.

I've had minor sinus issues for 5-6 years now and am taking medication to help 'keep things moving.' No issues with flying or diving, but was often congested and was getting 3 sinus infections a year.

After watching a buddy lose 75 lbs, I decided to do a no-carb diet for 2 weeks. By the 2nd week, I realized I had forgotten to take my sinus meds 3 days in a row and was breathing great.

Don't know if I have some specific allergy (beer? Pizza? are you kidding me?!) or what, but I was shocked at the difference. Sure enough, as soon as I went back on my 'normal' diet, my sinus issues returned. I'll try it again later this year and see if I can narrow down anything specific that triggers it, but was a real surprise to me as I've never had any allergy issues etc.

Oh and not sure if you drink but drinking definitely makes sinuses worse, which is a problem because I love beer. Alcohol is a histamine for those who didn't know.

Forgot to mention I was flying back from Kuwait to Georgia with a sinus infection and that was the most miserable I had been in my life. I really thought my head was gonna explode that was a very long trip. I haven't flown since.

I had 2 surgeries about 13 years ago and thank god it changed my life. I suffered my whole life right before the surgery I was on and off AB's all year long. I have not had any serious infections since. My friends didn't recognize my voice on the phone afterwards as it had changed, which was weird. I don't know what kind of surgery you had but mine was basically boring out the connections so everything drains better. I did not have packing or anything like that following.

It also helps to flush with saline regularly, get one of those squeeze bottles and use it. I try to swim and dive as much as possible in the ocean as that helps too.

Lots of good info, true on the alcohol I hardly drink anymore, immediate sinus headache

Interesting on the carb thing

I use the saline and the prescription rinses but they don't do a whole lot, my buddy the ent said they just don't get to the areas that are infected with me. Alkolol is my favorite nasal rinse, can order it on Amazon

I need to get something done with My Sinuses...For years I have had Sinus attacks as I put it. Sinuses start draining into the back of My throat.Next thing I'm gagging so bad,I can't even function. Almost like getting the Dry Heaves. If I eat something or chew a piece of Gum it goes away. Sometimes I do get those dreaded Sinus headaches also..Tried the Sprays, seemed like they used to work somewhat....Now not so much. I know I have a Deviated septum, was told that many years ago.Of couse being in the Auto Biz and all the crap I breath on a daily basis and some things in My early years.......sure hasn't helped!!
