Default Identity theft

Last week I had someone cash a fraudulent check at the bank I use in a different city. I was annoyed but I have now learned that they had a drivers license with my data, my ss #, and actually did a close forgery of my signature.

I have placed a fraud alert with all the credit bureaus and have signed up for life lock. I also have set up a fraud alert at my bank and any checks cashed in person they must call me and verify with my password.

What else can I do and have others gone through this?

Call all credit bureaus and place a freeze. This gets you 90 days. File a police report. This is a must aonyou can place a permanent freeze. Sign up for credit karma and watch your report. Dispute anything and everything incorrect. Stay on top of it. Apply for new ssn if you need to

Many times the info is stolen years prior to use. When people let their guard down then it happens again. Stay on top of it.
