Default Washington D.C. Suggestions Please!

My bride and her good friend will be in Washington D.C. this week for business but would like some suggestions on cool places to eat and visit. They're staying in the heart of DC, on "H street" so should be able to walk to almost everything, or metro to anyplace.

She's been there several times before and knows all the usual tourist spots, museums and such but is specifically looking for places most folks don't get to see, or tours. She's heard of a tour that takes folks to all the monuments at night, and has heard it's really beautiful but has no idea which one is good.

She's really looking to eat at some cool historical spots that locals go to, and/or politicians. She loves history has much as I.

Thanks in advance for all the suggestions.

If money is no object, I suggest the Quarterdeck restaurant for crabs. Get reservations. Exspensive but damn good crabs. Not too far from D.C. IWO JIMA memorial very close but think it's under renovation

I would suggest the following for good/old DC food

Old Ebbit Grill
The Dubliner
Occidental Grill & Seafood
1789 Restaurant
Tune Inn Restaurant - old dive bar

Tours by moonlight is definitely cool....some are even Segway so you don't have to walk

I go to DC every year for our 8th grade class trip. Here are a few things I would do on my own down there lol

The Ghost Tour in Alexandria is really cool. Its more a history, urban legends, and cool stories from the town. Very entertaining.
My favorite museum is the Marine's Museum (like military Marine) and Newsuem is neat too.
The monument night tour is nice, but very crowded with schools when we go and its hard to hear the tour guide. The bugs kind of suck too .

That's all I got for ya, otherwise I'm just running around monuments and museums all day!

I don't think her business CC will spring for a "top tier place", but I'll pass it along. The other spots sound great as well, and that definitely gives her a great list to search from.

As far as the "Tours by Moonlight", is that the actual name of the tour? Sounds very cool!

Thank you both.

X2 on Old Ebbit Grill.

Another suggestion is Charlie Palmers. It's sits right at the base of capitol hill so get a window seat. Very cool view of the capitol building.

The Metro is close and you can get just about anywhere.
There is so much to do there you could spend a month but it really depends on what you want to see. I used to walk around in the Smithsonian once or twice a week for years and there are still things I didn't see. Air and Space is really cool if you like that sort of thing.

Whenever I'm in DC, I always like looking at the White House from the gates. So calm and serene, yet just imagine what's going on inside! The history is incredible! When I can't take all that imagining anymore, I shout "allah akbar", toss a backpack over the fence, then run like hell.

Last time, I almost got away. Damn taser!

I have been, and it was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Evil is real and exists in all mankind. My wife refuses to go, says she could not handle it emotionally. I've tried several times, I can't force her to go!

We ate at a place called Clyde's. It was very nice and very reasonable. Best Pork chops and Collard greens my wife and I ever had. And we're from the South.
For entertainment you can't beat the Museum of natural history.
