Default Droid phone question and pricing

I like my droid but it's at least 3 or 4 years old. Battery life is declining . I can only get to about 1 or 2 p.m before it needs charged again..

No offense but I'm not interested in an I phone. I'd like to stay with a droid so I don't have to re-learn a new phone. I'm looking at the Turbo 2. Seems I can buy one on Amazon for around $314 but if I go to the Verizon store they are much, much more. Any problem with buying one from Amazon?

If anyone has any input on the droid, I'd appreciate it.

You can buy new batteries for them. Takes about 1 minute to swap them out.

I got a ZTE Blade Spark which uses Android for $106 until the iphone 8 comes out and it is a decent phone for the price. It's been out about a month from what I was told. I'm with AT&T and bought from their store. You may wanna see if Verizon carries it.

I don't know anything about the Turbo 2. I switched from Iphone to a Note 7, which I then had to return do to the recall. Next I went with the google pixel and I think it is a great phone. I bought directly from Verizon, don't have any experience buying off Amazon.

I've heard with the pixel, you can delete or add apps easily. In other words, it doesn't come pre loaded with bunch of crap or if it does, they are deletable?

Seems like the advantage to buying a phone from verizon is you can spread payments over 24 months with no interest and add insurance. Not sure if you can insure a phone with them that you buy elsewhere?

I just got a couple Galaxy J3 Eclipses at the Verizon store, replacing an aging pair of S4s. Price was pretty reasonable. Battery is identical to the S4, though battery life is much better. I don't buy insurance. $11/mo is a rip off when you can buy a new J3 on ebay for well under $100.

My 4 year old S4 battery lasts 1 1/2 days minimum, 3 days with minimal usage. Exchange it while you can.

Mine never lasted that long, but I live in a rural area with spotty service. I think that affects power usage. At four years old, it would need to be charged by mid afternoon.

Pixel is a great phone because it's a straight Android phone updates right from Google not extra stuff you don't need. That's all I buy currently have Nexus 5x (year prior to them changing to pixel name) and a pixel tablet. My phone died completely in June over two years old out of warranty and Google sent me a refurb for free no questions asked. Side note new pixel phones are coming out in October so current ones will probably go down in price soon. You will still get another year of OS updates and two more at least of security updates with current model.

I've had a turbo II for a couple years now and am fine for a couple more. Pretty darn durable. Killed more phones by dropping them, but not this one. Never dround it though. Pretty good antenna. We're on the fringes of coverage area and Marilyn usually has to take her iPhones outside. Sits in the car to talk in the winter. I can talk on the couch. Actually, my old THC Thunderbolt had a stronger signal than her iPhone as well.

The Pixel comes with stock Android - which means that the operating system is exactly as Google wrote it, no add ons or changes. You also get updates and patches as soon as Google releases them.

Now, whether or not stock Android is an improvement over other flavors of Android is up to the user. Samsung layers their TouchWiz software over stock Android - and you get some nice improvements. You don't get updates as often though.

You can add or remove apps just as easily from any flavor of Android. Nearly anything that I can't delete outright from my phone I can permanently disable. There are a few apps that you can't delete or disable, so I hide them and never think about them again!

You can spread the payments for virtually any phone over an 18-24 month period with any carrier, including Verizon. No fees or interest.

The carrier should be the last place you buy insurance protection. Samsung sells 2 year drop protection for $80. I have theft/loss coverage under my home policy (no deductible).

There are a bunch of other 3rd party insurance providers that give better coverage for cheaper than the carriers.

If I were you, I'd think about what you want to spend on a phone, then we can give more narrow suggestions. I love my S7 Edge, but I haven't seen anything yet that has compelled me to upgrade.
