Default Boats going to Texas for rescue

I was thinking of hitching up my scout 17 and hauling it down to Texas to help in the rescue effort. I just seen a vid on the news of hundreds of boats lined up down the sides of the freeway waiting. I'm wondering if they even need more boats at this point.

If you aren't intimately familiar with the area, I would say you are in danger if attempting this. You will have almost no landmarks, boat charting. Submerged powerlines, fences, trees, dead animals, etc. One issue disables your motor or boat, and you are the next victim.

Big mistake on your part as you will just become part of the problem. Why do you think those boats are waiting? Answer = because they are not wanted. If they have not asked you, they don't want you - or anyone else. So how do I know this? Answer = because I have been asked to go by the CG and told point blank - "we need bodies to man positions, not boats."

^ This is the best thing anyone can do at this point. Next to FEMA, the Red Cross provides THE best assistance to hurricane survivors. They are everywhere providing food, blankets, housing, etc.
