Default Gokey custom or Russell pull on boots?

I'm tired of shitty boots. If I drop $500 on a pair I want them made custom to fit my foot. Anyone have comments on either? Not sure if Russell with make custom to foot measurements. Orvis Gokey will. They also have the regular Gokey pull on that's not custom and a few bucks less.

I've worn Russell boots and chukkas since I was a kid. 40 years worth of comfort. I just discarded a pair of chukkas that had to be 25 years old.

Russell will custom make boots. Check their website.

I owned a pair of Orvis Gokey pull ons. Probably 8-10 years ago. Mine were not custom, if it makes a difference, but I was not impressed. They were comfortable but didn't hold up. I am hard on boots but these started coming apart after no more than a year. For a $200+ plus pair of boots I expected better mileage. Stupid me tossed them in the trash only to find out sometime later while visiting the store, that Orivs would have replaced them.

Si. At 4bills plus.... I expect more like 10 yrs plus with sole replacements as necessary. Maybe a hummer. When I wear out boots, and $$ boots at that like Ariat, etc., it's always the insole first and then the outsole. I really hope that these gokeys can send replacement insoles, as i killem'. I hoof around job sites on dirt, rock, and concrete all day and it is not easy on the feet. I take care of the leather uppers, but none seem to last.

I am originally from SWGA, quail and timber country. Russell Zephyr is the go to boot for what you are describing. Just remember the proper name of the company is the W.C. Russell Moccasin Company for a reason. Kid glove fit. The trade off is the boot is not a pure work boot. You can't kill the uppers and Russell will resole. Russell will customize their boots with heavy duty toe caps, etc. In my old stomping grounds Russell is/was the JB Hill of upland boot.

If you want a really nice pair of knock around shoes try the Chukkas. The double bottom moccasins are a favorite for wearing around the house. When my dad died I found 8-10 pair of beat up bird shooters in his gun room. He could bear to throw them away -- I took the new pair of bird shooters I found! Great, great company. Look on the web, Russell sells returns, overstock, and custom shoes the customer didn't pick up.

Russell makes a nice boot. Expect to send them back once or twice to get the fit just right.

I wear Russell's. Not custom ones, but regular sized pull on Cavalier Crossover. Hands down best boots I've ever owned and more than worth the cost. Sent them back last year for new soles and refresh. The resole and refresh cost about as much as a new pair run of the mill boots, but totally worth it.

Also, caveat being I have never owned a pair or Russell's, but I have read a lot of complaints on an African hunting forum I visit about the custom Russell's not fitting well. Don't know if it's the way people measure their feet or what but it seems Russell is very hit or miss in the custom department. The people who have a well fitting pair echo the sentiments above.
