Like the idea but would prefer something other than Red Cross. If anyone in TX or otherwise has a suggestion please pass it along.

I have read that the Salvation Army is one that does not keep/use most of the money donated for their own use.
check to make sure I am correct.

most of what I see on the news shows nice houses, so they have insurance.
But there are lots that did not pay for/ have flood insurance. not a smart thing to do.

Bluff, if you want to send more stuff I'm sure many here would love to donate. As for the Red Cross they do not get the best rating. Convoy of Hope gets a top rating and they are preparing to go to Texas. I have no affiliation with hope I just looked up charities and their rating so I could personally donate money to help.

I would add that what little time I spent with Bluff and his bride to be I was treated like family probably even better. Not to mention that his family go above and beyond the call of duty for their own community. Bluff's family are givers not takers.Proud to call him my friend

Thank you Bluffman.

to those that wish to help:
Immediately after Katrina private contributions like Bluffmans far outnumbered any govt or relief organizations work. Churches and "clubs" were especially helpful in collecting and delivering large quantities of needed goods (cloths, Water, Gas, generators, chain saws, basic food and hygiene needs).

We have an office near the interstate and set up a collection and distribution center for 3 weeks. All of this was done by individuals without anyone asking them for help. I was amazed at the number of tractor trailers that rolled in full of free needed items.

For anyone that wishes to make an immediate impact, I suggest you find someone like Bluffman that is doing it privately, but that is hard to do as people that have a large heart and willingness to help will never advertise this or ask for help.

Alternately, call around to your local churches and ask which ones are sending relief goods. They work through a local church in the most affected area to set up reception and distribution centers. They also usually have lists of those that are the most needy (elderly, handicapped, people that have lost houses and those that generally not able to take care of themselves). They do a great job of helping in these situations and require no money or contributions outside of your time or goods you wish to deliver.

Local clubs also do a lot of this. Ask around to your local car club, motorcycle club etc. They often load up car trailers full of goods and hit the road.
