Default Divorce Attorneys....tax deductible??

...so your kid is getting a divorce and needs funding for his attorney. I'm wondering whether all of his attorney expenses will be tax deductible, though?

Is there a limit to the amount of divorce attorney fees as a deduction?

Not deductible. Alimony yes, attorney fees no.

Any portion of the attorney's fee allocated to tax planning or the preservation of income may be deductible subject to certain limits. The quick and dirty answer for most people is "no."

If you need an attorney to help you recover money owed to you from your ex, you can deduct a % of the cost if you itemize deductions.

This needs to be spelled out on the attorney's invoice to be deductible.
