On mine, I have a 3/4" USB board (4x4) with 1/2" cork on top of it. If the backboard is super dense, you can dull your darts faster...but this is a playroom, not a competition board.. LOL

Ceiling tiles can work, but they do crumble easier. You can buy cork in 1x1 squares at hobby lobby that are 1/4 -1/2" thick.

Drywall is the best. Doesn't dull the darts. Just spackle and paint every now and then.

Or aim better!

I actually put mine in a dart cabinet. Its not a big backboard and low darts get past it into the wall. I too need to aim better.

Depends on how good you are at darts.... i have a bristle board hung at my house, just on drywall, i use steel tips, but kids amd newbies use soft tip! only a few holes in my wall from people.that lied to me and saud they knew how to play and were allowed steel tip.
Just as a side note, if by chance you have ceramic tile floors, put a welcome mat under board, the good steel tips will chip your tile!

My 9 and 11 year olds will be throwing the darts. The dart board will be hung in the 11 year olds room so I need a good backstop. Thanks for all the tips.
