Going through this now myself, what if you include new ductwork? Is there a ballpark estimate per drop and return? I was quoted 10-12k for Lennox X21 and new ductwork 4ton. Seems quite high.

I think we are around $4200 for the heat pump version of that unit.

I don't sell Lennox, but the 21 SEER brands we sell are 10 to 11k no duct work. What is wrong with the ducts?

I know somebody who just spent $28k on a 5ton 18 SEER who had it converted to two zones. It did come with a fancy color flat screen. they will never recoup the additional energy savings vs my HVAC's 8k price to replace with a 14 SEER.

To OP. I had a 3 ton replaced in a rental last year. Goodman 11-12SEER. Spent around $3500.

I have a 13k bid I accepted to replace a 4 ton system with a 19 seer, 2 speed system. That bid includes a $900 crane and a complete replacement and upgrade of the zoning baffles, sensors, controller and a minor duct reconfiguration.

I wouldn't pay 15k for AC and far from the city. 144 square miles - at least we know where they are.

Like the media some of you aren't giving all the info. 1k a ton is for a typical inside/outside unit replace. No line set, no additional ducting. To come on here and say "they want 15k to re-duct my house with xx seer is misleading. Is your house on stilts or slab? Old school flat roof no attic or a very shallow attic with a 2/12 pitch roof? Maybe an attic I can stand in? Also this time of year attic temps are brutal and you WILL pay a premium for attic work = miserable exhausting work conditions. If you can limp it through till fall you will get a more agreeable price in most cases.

Be more specific with your quote other than just brand x and xx seer.
The average system that corrodes out or fails due to age can be replaced for about 1k per ton. Most average systems in most 3/2 homes are about $3500.

Get several quotes and avoid the buddy deals. $3500 for a 3 ton 14 seer is not a buddy deal. It's about average.

Just sayin'
