I actually picked up mine at some little touristy type store... fedora style to it, cheap and comfortable.

You might consider looking in those places...

Straw hat's were too hot for me. Plus, I was constantly munching them up by sitting on them or having crap fall on them so I use a Tilley Airflo. I've worn out a couple. They were always flying into the salt marsh, or harbor, or ocean, or lake. Plus, I perspire like there's no tomorrow so my hat is essentially a salt marsh all the time. Tilley's can be mashed up and straightened out over your knee and you are back in business. Another trick with the Tilley is to keep a $20 in the secret compartment in the top liner. It's a southern THANG.

FIL wears these. Wife gets him a new one every year for Bday. Not because they're worn out, it's sort of their thing. She's been doing it for years lol. Anyway, he wears them everyday and has them stashed now everywhere.

My wife left her straw sun hat on the boat, one day I went out and my cap blew off and sank before I could get a net to it. She doesn't know it but that ladies hat was my go ever since.

Same with me. Got the TM10 about 10 years ago and that's my go to in the sun. Wife loves her huge T2.

Army Navy stores usually have the safari looking hats. I have three of them. They work great and hold up nice around water.

Don't you love getting old!!

Picked up a "Boonie Hat" the other day after a few hours baking my scalp under the sun... the string helps keep it from flying away and I like to dunk it in water and wear it wet to keep cool... and I don't care what I look like in it :-)

I wear a big straw hat all of the time. Have for years. Generally I have one from brands like Quicksilver, O'Neill, Billabong, Columbia, etc. The quality is good and they have a fabric sewn in under the brim that makes it darker(better for the eyes) and helps the durability.

I've also used plenty of 5$ gas station straw hats.

this is my current one.

also, no matter what, they only last about a season (summer). Even the higher quality ones eventually start break up and fall apart. The 25-30$ is just part of my yearly skin maintenance plan, I guess.

Straw hats just don't do it.... they get soggy and nasty and they still let the sun's rays through...

If you are not going to just buy a Steelfin baseball hat, I would strongly recommend that you take a look at the Madrone Technical hats.... I do wear them on the flats and in the boat and they are the best I have found.

I second just getting one from a military surplus store. Boonie hat I think?

Got mine at Saigon Sam's in Jacksonville NC. $12. Made in USA. Good quality, does everything it needs to do.

I do the same thing. buy one of those brands once a year. If you leave them in a boat console in high humidity they start sprouting by the end of the season. they help a bunch but you cant keep them on with a boat running.
