Yep I did and here is the proof! It sure was nice of them to send me a portion to pay the taxes and such. Now I just have to decide how to spend it.

bluffman2 04-17-2017 06:40 PM

1st off 8k is no where near enough to pay the taxes......

Denver Dave 04-17-2017 08:01 PM

I know its a scam, but how does this one work?

They tell you that you have to pay whatever amount in processing and taxes to them for whatever reason but it's no problem because you just got a check to cover it. You cash the check and write them a check to cover whatever BS they sold you on when talking to them. They cash your check, your bank finds out a few weeks later the check you deposited was never any good, your account goes in the red and now you have to pay back your bank for the check you just wrote them.

The idea is to game the timing of funds availability and actual verification as funds or a part of them are usually available before everything is setteled and verified.

Yup, old trick.

Congrats on the win! :)

Corndog38 04-17-2017 08:31 PM

Could be some fun to be had with this...

Jus Teasin 04-17-2017 08:34 PM

I'd start with opening a new account for the check at JPMorgan Chase Bank!

Corndog38 04-17-2017 08:38 PM

Does not law enforcement take a dim view of writers of bad checks??

bluffman2 04-17-2017 08:39 PM

Find out which bank the routing number belongs to and bring the check and letter into them. They will close the account.

LongIslandFisherman 04-18-2017 03:37 AM

Make a payment t Georgia Pacific for $100. Then write letter that you sent it to them by mistake. After some hassle, and phone calls, they will eventually see you paid the $100 ... and they will issue you a refund check. Now you have Georgia Pacifics bank name, routing number and account number ... and what one of their checks physically looks like ..... Now the scammers star sending out advanced payment checks to lucky winners.....

Seems legit...

Rascalsdad 04-18-2017 08:07 AM

I wouldn't trust it unless it's from a Nigerian Prince.

humpinit 04-18-2017 08:09 AM

Just try and cash the check.

Thalasso 04-18-2017 08:11 AM

Now you will have to pay taxes on the $8000.00

"not valid over 10 k unless countersigned"
Yet no line for counter signature.

Stand By 04-18-2017 07:16 PM

Put it on the counter and sign it.

baypro21 04-19-2017 02:19 AM

If the banks are so good at making me and you pay back if we get duped, why couldn't they just leave "our" money alone and go after the fraudulent check writer?

There are electronic signatures for everything now. Surely the banks can track where the legit money we sent the crooks has gone. They need to seize their legit bank accounts and let us little guys keep what was promised. That'll learn'em.
