Default How often do you change your A/C unit filter?

How frequently do you change your indoor air handler filter?

Do you change it more often in the Spring when there is more pollen in the air?

When my Nest says to.
Or when I look up at it and it's disgusting.
Usually right in the spring

Usually around Memorial Day weekend - but we only need AC from early June to the middle to end of September.

I buy custom ones with a high MIR rating and change every other month. I have allergies and it helps.

Ha! yep...I try to stick to quarterly, but slacked this go around. Going to do it now.

We haven't run heat or A/C much the past few months, though.

As a rule of thumb, the higher the MERV of the filter, the more often it will have to be changed, all other things being equal. This is because they catch more stuff plain and simple.
You want to be careful with them though as they can be very restrictive.
I recommend changing filters every 6 weeks during seasons of use. There is nothing you can do that provides more benefit to the health of your home and the efficiency of your system.

In Florida, monthly during the A/C season. Once the unit is off for the fall-spring, it gets changed once the air is back on. If it runs 30 days in those 5 months, that's a lot. Clean air is cheap.

In Jersey once a month during summer when ac is running. Don't use in the winter, we have hot water heat. Florida I use 90 day filters and change when they look dirty.

Every other month in the winter, every month spring, summer, fall, the pollen around here the last few springs and falls has been insane. Filters go in white and come out gray
