Default 2290 Heavy Hwy Use Tax

Every damn year, I get letter after letter from our DMV saying Heavy Highway Use tax isn't paid and I have to send in the documentation. I've done that this year more than once. The thing is, if they don't ask about a specific truck (VIN), they don't look at the rest of the 2290 to what other trucks are paid up...that would be too much to ask.

Well, one of our trucks got stopped again and we got cited. This is becoming a huge issue and we aren't the only company with this problem. It seems that the state (SC) isn't talking to the Feds. Anyone else have the pleasure of dealing with this BS?

Can you send proof of payment to the FEDS and keep a copy of that communication in the truck?

We pay online through EFTPS...ao they have it. I think the problem lies with the local (State) authorities not getting that info like they should, even though I've mailed off copies to them several times. The ladies at the DMV love it when I come down there and complain about this as a few other companies do the same thing.

I don't know how long you've been dealing with them, but I've been dealing for about 20 years, with hundreds of trucks. I can assure you, it doesn't get better.

I've got about 4 years of this under my belt...it's not that it's all that hard to get straight (by the way, the duty officer today never answered the phone out of the 15 times I tried throughout the day), it just takes time out of my day that I should not have to give to this cluster of a situation....I've got plenty of things I've screwed up that I need to fix myself

What state are you out of, Turtle? Are they similar issues to what I have?

On top of this is what the truck is delivering is a perishable product...some jobs will reject the load if it times out. Could get to be a fairly costly mistake.
