Default Dear grocery stores, please quit accepting............

Personal checks so that all the old ladies (like my mom) will finally break down and get a damn debit card and quit holding up the line.

Signed,

The guy that just wants to get the three B's of a snowstorm (beer, bourbon, and bacon).

Life is so rushed you can't wait a few minutes for an elderly person to write a check? That's pretty bad.

Exactly. 90 year old widows who walk to the grocery store can take all the time they need in my book.

Exactly. Ever watch a little old lady pick the exact amount of change out of her coin purse. I think it has more to with age than type of payment.

Chipped cards were clunky at first but around they are working fine most places.

A check would drive me through the roof but at the self-checkout, it's not likely anyone is going to pull one out. Of course there are those who can't use a scanner so that creates other difficulties.

There's a scene in the movie Up In The Air where George Clooney does a nice speech about how to profile people in the TSA lines and who to get behind. That's what you have to do - with the customers and the cashiers if it's a manned lane.

Hey I would like to see some folks learn to carry cash (like my Son) so when they stop at damn convience store to make a $5 purchase I don't have to stand and wait on their card to be processed

I THOUGHT I was last of one to give in and use a debit card instead of checks for stuff but I also got behind a lady at grocery store yesterday that had to not only take her time writing the check but then had to take her time writing in her check register as well, hell I thought she was going to balance her checkbook while she was standing there.

Older I get the more patient I get but SOMETIMES enough is enough

get a damn debit card
Great idea if you don't mind debit card fraud.
My banking friends tell me they usually get at least 1 person a day that has lost their money with debit accounts. You couldn't give me a debit card.

You nailed it. At least start filling the blasted thing out while the cashier is scanning the stuff. Shoot, that could be filled out before you get out of the car.

My wife does this all the time. It seems to be an OCD thing.

When I say old ladies, I'm referring to the 55-70 age group. Still get around plenty good, just intentionally reluctant to do anything "modern". The same time that thinks the only thing their iphone can do is show their friends pics of their grandkids.

The worst that happened to me was when the lady in front of me opens up that cardboard fanfold coupon carrier and starts going through it. Then starts trying to double down on her expired coupon for 10 cents off on her toilet paper 12 pack. Next she pulls out 20 coupons and lays them on the belt so the cashier can't move it.You know she is going to pay with a check from a checkbook buried down somewhere in her purse, she'll get it out when the cashier rings up the total. If you ever see a lady with one of those cardboard coupon holders go immediately to the next checkout land, no matter how long. I later found out it's a hobby, they have websites, socialize and compete, driving the people in line behind them crazy is just a side benefit.

You're probably describing a large percentage of our moms on this forum. Their way of doing things have brought them and this nation through some trying times. What's wrong withwith practicing tolerance and understanding. Slow down a little.
