Whether you're a hunter or not. I reckon it got gut shot on a neighbor's property and crawled over to mine. I didn't shoot it and I don't think I have any poachers.

Are you sure it was shot? Have you had EHD in the area? We have found several bucks killed by that disease and all were found at a water source.

Is it possible that it just died of natural causes, or maybe it killed it's self. btw, my heart remains unbroken.

Good point. When EHD swept through MI a few years ago dead deer around a water source were very common.

When is the rut in your area? Could have been gored during a fight.

who knows how it died? I think if you closely inspected the carcass you would have a good probability of finding some indication of a bullet wound or bone or something. So it very well may have died of old age or sickness or whatever.
This post is a good reminder to all good hunters that shot placement and one shot is really all that is necessary. If you do not have a kill shot don't take it.
Unless you don't care and that's up to you.

I'd say it got tangled and couldn't pull loose from those vines and maybe broke it's neck? Happens quite often, especially if they get startled by the situation. Also, could have died from a disease as well.

I would cut the head off and make a nice euro mount.
