If it was only me I'd want a front flat deck. The fiancé likes fishing and tanning on the forward seating so I'm fine with it and probably wouldn't have a boat without.

Of course you're not going to be sitting up there in any kind of sea but I've had 9 adults and two dogs on a Mako 261 and everyone was comfortable.
It all depends on how you use the boat the majority of the time.

Not in a YF42 on the GOM. My kids will sleep or suntan up there while I go 50 mph from Tampa to Sanibel or Tampa to Key West. If there are any white caps yes, but on the GOM more often than not its 2' or less and we are flying. In the ocean I could agree with you.
