Default Thanksgiving at Wal Mart

I know this is a bit late but I just gotta rant for a minute. Thanksgiving day around 4:00 I had a bit of an emergency and needed some plastic epoxy (long story short...Friday dad an I were going for a motorcycle ride in the NC mountains, and, well, like an idiot I knocked my new-to-me-bike off the center stand and into my dad's new-to-him-bike. Fortunately only mine crashed to the floor, and miraculously the only damage was it broke the windshield off. Needed a quick fix for my stupidity until I got a new bracket).

Anyway, 4:00 on Thanksgiving day. We already had lunch at one side of the family and were on our way to supper at the other, and Wal Mart was the only thing open who would have plastic epoxy. I hate Wal Mart, but it was an emergency.

Now, the black Friday sales started at 6 pm on Thanksgiving day, but the place was a madhouse. All through the isles were pallets upon pallets of cheap Chinese CRAP wrapped in cellophane. Folks were sitting there with their hands on the stuff, sitting on top of some of them, "claiming" them in anticipation of the floodgates at 6:00.

What the hell is wrong with people. When did a $15 cheap Chinese POS tool set become more important than spending the day with family? It's insane, and truly sad. One lady had a map of where the goods where in the store. A MAP!!!!!

Sorry for the rant. I just can't imagine being so wrapped up in cheap consumer crap that the real reason for the holiday takes a backseat.

Some people get a thrill from spending thousands of dollars to go catch some fish or go for a cruise on their bike with friends and family.

Some people get a thrill from believing they saved as much money as possible at a sale on a product.

Thrill seekers come in many fashions seeking that high.
Many will never understand the other.

NCSU your statement is misleading. They were spending time with their families.

I went in to get some celery around 4, yellow tape blocking off the aisles and people milling around the entrance. I got my celery and left. I saw all the palletes but people couldn't cross the yellow tape to get to them. I went home, had a few drinks and finished my stuffing. Milling around Wal Mart for hours, on thanksgiving, waiting for a sale to begin is really sad. There are people buying christmas toys for their kids and a $50 or $60 dollar savings is a almost a days take home pay to some of them.

Exactly my feelings on the matter. And I hesitated to even make my quick trip, but, well it was gonna be cold Friday and I needed to rig that damn windshield somehow

I guess people have different priorities. All I want to do on Thanksgiving is hang out with family, eat, and watch football.

If I have to go to Walmart, I have to have a couple drinks first or I will grind my teeth. My hate for that place, rational or not, is simply visceral. Go in, get my sh!t, GTF out.

America, that's why. The same people that buy Christmas decorations before Halloween are the same ones that entice corporations to start Black Friday at midnight, then at 10, then at 8, now we have it at 6pm. If this year's financials look good you can expect it at 4 next year, just like we can expect Santa displays to go up before the giant black cat or the grim reaper.

I, too, was at wally-world at about the same time getting some food (most of my family care more about deer hunting than cooking turkey). The grocery department had pallets of crap blocking aisles and forming a zig-zag path... too 15 minutes to gather what should have taken 3 minutes. This was in a town small enough that all of the restaurants closed, I can't imagine the madness a big city.

It's not a Walmart problem, it's a people problem.
