Default TV guys....what is this??

According to the manual this is the connection for optical digital....looks like a standard component jack to me....whats it supposed to do?? Thanks

surround sound, connects to your stereo (if no equipped with fiber optic connection)

yep both above are correct. Carries a digital audio signal between two devices using a regular coax (rca) cable.

edit to add: Optical digital uses a little plastic square plug and receptacle.

I would guess the manual you have covers several models and the one you have has the coax instead of the optical.

I don't think anyone uses these much anymore unless you have a really old TV. HDMI handles all the audio and video in one cable now. here is a pic of a Optical jack.

They use them for the sound bars on the bottom of big screens. Mine also blue tooths to the sub woof and the satellite speakers. The HDMI carries the signal to the TV, then the optical takes the sound to your sound upgrade.

The most common use of the coax digital and optical digital connectors now a days is for when you use the TV HDMI video inputs directly from source material
and then feed your reciever the audio from the TV using one of these digital audio output connectors. That was when the TV's had more HDMI's available when needed than your older receivers did.
