Rebuild - Hutchins Hustler Straight-line Sander
I have a very nice Hutchins Hustler 2000 Straight-line sander, although 10-years old. It has suddenly lost power; I'm guessing that it needs a new set of rubber O-rings.

Has anyone rebuilt one of these (I can not find an online tutorial anywhere). Or a shop that will rebuild it. My local tool shop says that they don't mess with them (too complicated) and Hutchins wants $190 to rebuild it.

Any ideas?

Half of brand new sounds about right as far as a rebuild goes. We used to use a shop in West Palm that would rebuild but they closed up several years ago. I also used to send tools back to Snap-On for repair/rebuilds. In the end, I don't really know if it was even worth rebuilding because they never seemed to last or have the same power as new. Really not even close to new in the longevity department so if you figure half price gets you half as much tool then I guess you could say you break even. If it's just a simple o-ring fix, it might be worth a $50 fix but if it really needs to be rebuilt for $190 then I think I'd be looking for new.

When you get it back from Hutchins it will be like new. They don't fix them they restore it with all new parts, pads and all. Just got my Waterbug back from them... $175... it was worth it, like buying a new one at half price. Only way I knew they rebuilt mine was it has my name still engraved in it.
