Default Home invasion threads

These things have me thinking... I always answer my front door with my XDs drawn and behind the door. It's a left hand in swing so it hides my right side if I only open it a little bit. If someone over the age of 9 comes to my door I'll answer it that way. Every time.

Am I the only one?

Ring doorbells. I know you are there before you do. In Denver, from Mexico.

No, its not just you. I would feel mighty stupid being a gun owner and not having it ready if needed. Only difference is I don't use plastic, good old 1911.

Ya man. I need a 1911. Just have the cash for one. I carry EVERYWHERE except for the boat where it's in my dry box in my console and in my house where it lives on the kitchen counter or night stand when I go to bed.

I couldn't imagine being somewhere I'd feel the need to be holding a loaded gun just to open my door.

I don't open the door unless I know who it is. The peep hole in the front is one of the ones you can see the entire entry with. I can see them with the camera too.

Strangers get the inter-com.

There's a clear view of the front door from the dining room. I look before I open. Is someone looked sketchy I wouldn't open the door. I have a solid bullshit detector but...

I start monitoring your presence when you turn onto my road.

I time the intervals that my magnetic road sensors start going off so I know if they are on the move or they stopped somewhere.

Seems insane to let a stranger get to my front door without me knowing first.

Most victims can't imagine they have been victimized...They thought they were safe too...

Criminals count on people being like you, complacent, head in the sand..

I stopped being real worried about who showed up at my door when I stopped running around with married women I was not married to many years ago.

I guess I need to rethink this in these days and time now

I can relate to that. While I do have quick access to firearms, there is very little crime in my immediate area. I usually don't even carry while in my "immediate area" I carry when I travel out of my immediate area.
I know the naysayers will say "you never know" and that can be true, but I just feel pretty safe right here.
I read some posts where guys are carrying while home in their easy chair or have a shotgun next to the door etc. and I just kinda scratch my head. Not that I'm knocking it, but I just can't relate to living in an area like that.
I realize we don't always have control over where we have to live.

^^^^^^^^^ It is the same reason most people get into traffic accident very close to their house. They get complacent and don't pay attention....

The true thugs that want to be entrepreneurs go to the nicer neighborhoods...no risk, no real reward.... but I know nothing about burglaries or home invasions, carry on...

You might not need to carry a gun around with you but I certainly would have some sort of plan and some kind of tool available, just like a fire extinguishers in the kitchen..

I have always had firearms around the house, less accessible now with young children but still accessible. I have a friend that carries even at home which always seemed a bit over the top but with stories like this maybe not.

Sadly our country has changed and not for the better. When I was a child I could go to bed and not worry about the fact that our front door was open so the night time breeze could come through the screen door.

Today it doesn't matter where you live. Just because you have never been a victim doesn't mean a thing. As Cracker said, you have become complacent with the fact that you have never experienced a home invasion so in your mind no danger exist.

As for me, unless it is a neighbor that rings my doorbell you can rest assure that I have my gun at the ready when I go to the door.

Posted from another thread but the video evidence is indisputable. I used to feel comfy in my river cabin until my neighbors' 40ish yo son stuck a pitchfork thru my screen porch and threatened my brother who was staying there. I was at the beach house but caught it on camera.

Now the dude was drugged out and has paid the price but if I had been there it would have been a different story. I don't want to kill a human but in that case would have been justified.

So if you think it can't happen to you. It happened to my bro in the middle of nowhere in the blink of an eye. And I had a firearm within reach and told my bro to use it. That's why the dude left.

You can see the video here: https://vimeo.com/175585623 Use the password: druggie
BTW a 400 dollar video system was money well spent.

If someone makes it into my house while I'm home they will be carried out. Sometimes when I'm home alone and the mrs won't be home my doors are unlocked.
