Default I feel bad...but don't be stupid

So, went to the Clemson vs Carolina game yesterday. Got into the statium normal time, about the time the band was taking the field for the National Anthem.

The seats in front of ours regularly get sold by the season ticket holder, and this game was no different. Completely normal appearing family siting there. They made the normal small talk with everyone. Then Clemson ran down the hill, and of course it got LOUD. This is to be completely expected. At that point the father jumped up, turned around and started yelling at us and everyone around us for being loud and ruining his 2 special needs kids first college game. At that point we looked down and they were huddled up with each other bawling. Up until he told us, there was no outside indication that anything was other than completely normal. Our group immediately quieted down, but the scene had taken a turn for the worse at that place until. Turns out neither could walk, and he had carried them into the stands prior to the rest of the crowd. He ends up carrying them up the stairs to where their wheelchairs were, and then came back to the seats to curse everybody out and thank them for ruining his families day.

Now I don't want to be insensitive, but why in hell would you bring noise sensitive special needs children to the loudest stadium event held each year in the state?????? And if you did, you would think that some sort of sound suppression for the kids would be in play rather than a non realistic, unspoken expectation of the crowd around you.

I was happy that he was able to resale the tickets, hopefully for close to what he had paid for them.

You are right, there was no way to know and he should have got them something to significantly reduce the noise... The problem was his lack of thought and preparation on his part. College football games are a noisy place, you did nothing wrong...

It's like taking your favorite snowball into the desert and getting mad at the heat for melting it.

Wow, people cheering at a football game.. Wonder what his reaction would be at a NASCAR race.

You did nothing wrong at all but the guy has his hands full. Probably didn't think it thru taking the kids there but wouldn't want to be in his shoes thats for sure.

Don't feel bad for him in the least. The kids on the other hand, I feel very bad for. My wife is a special needs teacher and I hear horror stories about stupid parents like this all the time. It's like they can't be inconvenienced by their kids, so they just drag them around everywhere including places they shouldn't be.

That father is an idiot! Their first game is a rivalry game and he expects it to be quiet for them? No way I could have been quiet if I were a Clemson fan. Hell, I'm a VT fan first and ACC fan second and I would have been yelling during that game if I was there!

Every stadium I have been in has seating accommodations for wheelchair bound fans. Nothing about noise control though. If the parent had been really sensitive to these kid's needs, he would have worked with the facility management to help him. They might have even found a spot in suite.

At least he could have taken ear protection for his kids.

Poor decision on his part. Nothing the OP could do.

You did nothing wrong auto.

I will cut the man some slack. I can't imagine the stress on a parent with 1 special needs child ..... multiply that by 2 and you are walking in his shoes. He lost it probably when he realized what a stupid decision it was to bring the sensitive kids to that event. Y'all were the punching bag he needed.

I hope he doesn't take them to their first heavy metal concert.. This was the wrong choice for his kids, live events are loud- that's why they make big screen TV's..

Situations like that are best to sit back, and enjoy the show. Nothing better than watching people makes fools of themselves in public.
