Default Boca Grande to Miami Trip

Gents,

I am the proud new owner of a 30' Grady Marlin. It's in Placida,FL. And I want to bring her home on her own bottom. Want to make a 2 day trip out of it with the wife. Any ideas as to what the best halfway stopping point would be? I would like to pull into a marina that has good food and shore power so we can stay in the boat. The boat has a diesel genny so we could stay on the hook but since the wife is coming I think some dry land in between is a good idea.

Coming around cape Florida it's about 250 mile one way trip.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!
Ed

Take the lake across and stay at Roland Martins. This time of year getting a good weather window for open water can be sketchy. I had a 30 Grady Marlin and got the worst azz kicking ever going across Florida Bay. Anything with an easterly component at over 10 knots makes that shallow water get like a washing machine.

If you go around the cape Marco River Marina is the best place to stop mid way. They usually have transient slips.

Congrats on the new ride, did you buy the one that was listed on this site? If you did I was looking at it too.

Yes bought it from John Ferrara. Great experience and the boat is a time capsule. It's as close to a "new" used boat as it gets.

Didn't know they had transient there. My old man has a place in long key but it's rented now. Grew up down there. Thanks for the tip!

I believe they have a few... or you can try Snake Creek (keep my boat there) or Holiday Isle,, maybe even Bud n Marys ....

I am sure you know the markers South of sprigger bank before the ICW (yacht channel) ... Seen many a boat take them from the wrong direction and hit the hard ....

Know those markers real well. I am going to call WWS tomorrow and ask about the transients.
