Default Cell Phone Buying

I've been on Cricket for a while now and I'm very happy with the service. Current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4. Cracked glass, low memory........it's time to upgrade.

Where is the best place to buy a Samsung S6 or S7? I don't need the latest and greatest so a good deal on the S6 would meet my needs. I've looked on Amazon and there are a lot of options with prices all over the place. International versions, different carriers, etc. Guess I can use unlocked or ATT with Cricket.

An unlocked phone with GSM network capability should work for Cricket. If the phone works on the AT&T network, it is a GSM network phone. Some phones will work on both GSM and CDMA (the network Verizon uses).

I would wait until Black Friday. US Cellular is doing $500 back on S7. I bet you Cricket will do something too.

If you buy it through Cricket you can get the insurance for a little extra each month. Its worth it on a $500 plus phone.
I don't need a high end phone and have been buying the Alcatel Idol from cricket for under $200. I don't miss carrying a $700 gadget around in my pocket.

I've purchased 2 slightly used phones from these guys. I've been very happy. Theyh have a 90 day guarantee. I get the phone from them and then a prepaid plan from whomever.

I bought a new iphone 6s today from cricket for $389

I also recently bought a refurb iphone 6 from woot (amazon). Had a issue, sent it back & no hassle getting my money back. The 90 day warranty made me feel better than going through CL or ebay. Turns out I needed it.

ebay is an option. I've had 3 s5 mini's as I've ventured into android territory and explore different os's like pacman and cyanogen. All bought on ebay and I'm still under 500 for my experimenting.

What's the deal with all the International versions on Amazon? I read some discussions on the Woot site and someone bought a Samsung S6 and it would only work on 3G for some reason.

Went from S4 to a brand new Motorola Moto X gen 2 off fleaBay for under $200. Love it. Motorola interface is nicer than Samsung and much less bloatware too. Overall a simple switchover, plugged in my ATT SIM card added google and mail accounts and off I went.

International versions are GSM and made to sell in other countries. They do not have the ATT/Verizon bloatware in them. Basically an unlocked version with no phone company affiliation.

So is there a downside to buying an EU/LATAM version like this:

Make sure it is covered by the Samsung factory warranty. Since it wasn't intended for sale in the USA, it may not be covered.

I bought this phone and have been very happy with it. Cheap, great screen and way faster than the Moto X gen 1 it replaced. The Amazon ads are not intrusive.

4G is faster, so downloading runs as much as 10X faster.

Recently purchased 2 of these, with an otterbox commuter case and tempered glass screen protecters for 4bills total. Nice to have a spare phone and just transfer SIM card over. I torture my phones however this Moto phones are holding up well.

I know the OP wants a Samsung phone but if he is not a power user this will suffice.

Also a Cricket user, that switched from Staightalk,
