7th grade... One of the kids was walking down the hallway saying she heard on her transistor radio in the girls room Kennedy had been shot... Then it came over the intercom. Don't remember much more except watching it all on TV...

Third grade...Schweinfurt Germany...home in the evening washing dishes after dinner.

Edit: Kennedy was a beloved man in Germany. A hero beyond measure. I vividly recall the Germans openly crying in the street, as affected as any American.

I was in 1st grade at Johnson Air Force Base Japan. We were sent home iirc. Been a long time but I recall the base went into full alert and lock down.

Fifth grade in Mrs. Feightner's geography class.
She lived next door to the school and her husband came to the class and whispered in her ear.
We were sent back to our home rooms and turned the TVs on and we watched Walter Cronkite give the news. Then we loaded onto the buses and were sent home.

2nd grade - don't remember the school, but I can still picture in my minds eye when the teacher told the class.
They let us out early that day.

5th Grade with Sister Claire, she was crying. I remember coming home with the family on Sunday from Mass and my neighbor walked up to the car and said Oswald was shot on TV.

A lot to absorb for a 10 year old, combine that with the Cuban Missile crisis 2 years earlier and if you think today's news is scary, you should have lived through that.

Sitting in the school newspaper office in the 1700 block of G st NW DC. The city was gridlocked.
I did not get home until well after dark and we started trying to get out of there right away.
