Default Floor is HOT •••updated 12/6•••

The floor in our master bedroom closet is hot to the touch. I'd say maybe 15° Hotter than the surrounding area. It's only in a 3'x3' area. My wife noticed it a few weeks ago. The closet shares a wall with the kitchen sink and is across the hall from the master bathroom. I initially thought the hot water line sprang a leak but a check of the water meter showed no flow. We've been in the house for 3 years and it hasn't been an issue in the past. We rent and have notified the maintenance department of our landlord.

Any ideas on what it could be besides a portal to hell opening up in my closet?

I assume this is a slab? If not, I would be crawling under there and looking at it before I could sleep again in the house.

Buy or borrow one of those infrared temp probes and check out the actual temperature. That will give you an idea of how hot compared to the other areas of floor in the house. Think maybe there's a water heater for the kitchen sink under there?

It's a slab. There's a water heater for all the hot water needs in the garage. They're coming out Tuesday evening to check it out.

Get the FLIR that fits on your smartphone, maybe you can see whats going on.

Then you can use it for night boating once you've figured this out.

I've looking for an excuse to buy one of those things. I'll be right back, I'm going to check my closet flo...

Damn, a real head scratcher. Is there lighting in the closet? Hot water line going to sink touching slab with settling? Hot spring? Start of sink hole? Damn...

Same thing happened at parents house in bathroom. It was a leaking hot water line under the slab.

I'm guessing leaky hot water line. Does the closet back up to a bathroom/kitchen/laundry??
