Strictly Bourbon...

How about a thread where we can just discuss Bourbon.

What new bourbon releases are out, what does this that or the other taste like before I buy it, have you seen this particular bourbon in your travels, here is a bourbon to stay away from, here is one I just opened and am enjoying, here's my collection etc etc etc.

Sooooo....

I'll start. I have roughly 80 bottles of Bourbon at my house and really enjoy collecting and trying new things. I am currently building some new shelving in my bar because previously I had stuff stacked everywhere. I had forgotten that I had Angels Envy Bourbon. Went back to it and can't stand it. I LOVE their rye, but I just couldn't get past how peppery the bourbon was...so I guess my tastes are changing because I remember a day when I really liked it.

I am really into the high proof, cinnamony, vanilla, caramel stuff....Noah's Mill, Bookers, George T Stagg etc, EH Taylor Barrel Proof etc.

triplenet 11-15-2016 02:40 PM

Pretty much stopping drinking single malt due to all the good quality American stuff on the market today ..

InternationalMarineBrian 11-15-2016 02:50 PM

We just enjoyed David Nicholson 1843 at the Navy Football tailgate this past weekend. Smokey/ woody and touch of vanilla.

blaineC 11-15-2016 02:56 PM

I have tried many, and still exploring scotch. I always come back to Bulleit.

Eastport205 11-15-2016 02:57 PM

Bourbon was the FIRST thing I realized I couldn't drink.

cphilip 11-15-2016 03:05 PM

I think Bulleit is my favorite too. Easy to find and I actually like it better than Buffalo Trace. Im a single malt scotch guy though.

GreySky 11-15-2016 03:08 PM

Blanton's Gold.

More of a beer drinker now but I do have this bottle set aside for a special occasion. Back when I drank a bit more liquor, Woodford was my go to bourbon

r_ventura_23 11-15-2016 03:11 PM

Not a fan of Woodford. I only drank single barrel until I tried Bulleit.

I don't keep it at the house, but if I go out to a place that doesn't have much, they usually at least have that....so I'll drink it.

hipmotized 11-15-2016 03:16 PM

bourbon

try Widow Jane- made in Brooklyn

Ryan H. 11-15-2016 03:17 PM

Knob Creek or Makers are my go to bourbons

I find that Irish whisky is easier on my system these days

billfish33 11-15-2016 03:23 PM

Elmer Lee, but I just can't find it anywhere ? {also became pricey the last time I was able to get it}

1792 small batch is pretty tasty and priced right.

Weekend-Hooker 11-15-2016 03:26 PM

got extra? lol

AresDC5 11-15-2016 03:40 PM

I used to really like Angels Envy. Then I switched to Bulleit. Recently I have been drinking 291 Rye, damn it is good.

mikefloyd 11-15-2016 03:43 PM

Once I got to Booker's I stopped trying other stuff. But I absolutely hate that stupid wooden box.

schoolsout1 11-15-2016 03:46 PM

There's one...and I'm trying to think of what it is, but I swear it was Evan Williams that had a "small-batch" aged stuff that was damn good...I'll have to ask my neighbor. I'd put it up against some if the higher shelf stuff like Baysil Hayden, Buffalo Trace or similar. Let me see if I can find out what it was.

Edit: Evan Williams Single Barrel

If you come across it, don't be afraid to try it.

Offshoreaddicted 11-15-2016 03:48 PM

Makers Mark and Crown

Airslot 11-15-2016 03:51 PM

It was Evan Williams Small Batch 1792. Two mentions in this thread. It's "cheap", but I agree that its pretty good.

Buddy said it was the "Single Barrel" stuff. He's a rep for Island Oasis and gets around. Pretty sure he brought a bottle last year and said it was like sub $30...I got to googling and found a review, but I know nothing of the site. Just check out what it made the Top 10 with

http://whiskyadvocate.com/tag/evan-williams/

My liquor cab stays empty...I may swing by the likka sto tomorrow now.

triplenet 11-15-2016 03:55 PM

Hudson ....

Buddy''s wife is from Kentucky...she's got a lot of bottles like these. Sometimes, we get to drink them..I don't think it's anything special other than the bottle, but cool nonetheless

Holy Smoke 11-15-2016 04:31 PM

Evan Williams single barrel
Eagle Rare
McKenna single barrel
Four Roses

Are my everyday drinkers

Col EH Taylor single barrel and small batch when I can get them are my favorites

Picked up a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon today and a EC barrel proof. Saving them for a special occasion

To my NC peeps this is a good week to visit your ABC on their delivery day,

cptsdr 11-15-2016 04:34 PM

My go to's have been Makers, Rare Breed, and Elijah Craig 12.
Last week They had Four Roses on sale, I really liked that one.
Bottle lasted me just short of two nights!

Sprockets 11-15-2016 04:36 PM

I'm currently going through a bottle of Bulliet after a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch. Both very drinkable.

As an aside, when I visited my daughter in the DC area over the summer she took me to the Jack Rose Dining Saloon. Quite impressive collection!

x2....but at the OP request we should keep this strictly bourbon :)

Jstarion 11-15-2016 04:44 PM

I really like the Jefferson ocean however I've been drinking Four Roses single barrel at home lately because sams had if for like $30 and I bought 6 bottles lol.

schoolsout1 11-15-2016 04:46 PM

OP(or someone) should keep track of the "list" in the first post...list suggestions and people can try and, maybe, create a list of THT's suggested bourbons...I've already forgotten what was on the first page. That way, when I hit up the store, I can come to this thread, find the list and pick one..or 3

RyanL11 11-15-2016 05:25 PM

Good thread. I'm a big fan of Bulliet and Jefferson. Bought 4 Roses single barrel recently, not too impressed. Always looking for something good in that $30 price range.

80 bottles? Damn.

I'm with you on Angels Envy; ok but I'm not a fan. Total Wine had it on the shelf with a tag saying "rated 98 points" and there is no way I would rate it above 88.

At different price points, I like:

$ 80-110... Garrison Brothers, Whistlepeg (Rye),
$ 50-60... Bookers, Hudson Baby Bourbon, Balcones Baby Blue
$ 30-40... Knob Creek, Willett, Jefferson, Prichards
$ 20... Elijah Craig

Fish Hunter IV 11-15-2016 06:10 PM
