Strictly Bourbon...

How about a thread where we can just discuss Bourbon.

What new bourbon releases are out, what does this that or the other taste like before I buy it, have you seen this particular bourbon in your travels, here is a bourbon to stay away from, here is one I just opened and am enjoying, here's my collection etc etc etc.

Sooooo....

I'll start. I have roughly 80 bottles of Bourbon at my house and really enjoy collecting and trying new things. I am currently building some new shelving in my bar because previously I had stuff stacked everywhere. I had forgotten that I had Angels Envy Bourbon. Went back to it and can't stand it. I LOVE their rye, but I just couldn't get past how peppery the bourbon was...so I guess my tastes are changing because I remember a day when I really liked it.

I am really into the high proof, cinnamony, vanilla, caramel stuff....Noah's Mill, Bookers, George T Stagg etc, EH Taylor Barrel Proof etc.

Pretty much stopping drinking single malt due to all the good quality American stuff on the market today ..

We just enjoyed David Nicholson 1843 at the Navy Football tailgate this past weekend. Smokey/ woody and touch of vanilla.

I have tried many, and still exploring scotch. I always come back to Bulleit.

Eastport205 11-15-2016 02:57 PM

Bourbon was the FIRST thing I realized I couldn't drink.

I think Bulleit is my favorite too. Easy to find and I actually like it better than Buffalo Trace. Im a single malt scotch guy though.

Blanton's Gold.

More of a beer drinker now but I do have this bottle set aside for a special occasion. Back when I drank a bit more liquor, Woodford was my go to bourbon

r_ventura_23 11-15-2016 03:11 PM

Not a fan of Woodford. I only drank single barrel until I tried Bulleit.

I don't keep it at the house, but if I go out to a place that doesn't have much, they usually at least have that....so I'll drink it.

Knob Creek or Makers are my go to bourbons

I find that Irish whisky is easier on my system these days

billfish33 11-15-2016 03:23 PM

Elmer Lee, but I just can't find it anywhere ? {also became pricey the last time I was able to get it}

1792 small batch is pretty tasty and priced right.

I used to really like Angels Envy. Then I switched to Bulleit. Recently I have been drinking 291 Rye, damn it is good.

mikefloyd 11-15-2016 03:43 PM

Once I got to Booker's I stopped trying other stuff. But I absolutely hate that stupid wooden box.

schoolsout1 11-15-2016 03:46 PM

There's one...and I'm trying to think of what it is, but I swear it was Evan Williams that had a "small-batch" aged stuff that was damn good...I'll have to ask my neighbor. I'd put it up against some if the higher shelf stuff like Baysil Hayden, Buffalo Trace or similar. Let me see if I can find out what it was.

Edit: Evan Williams Single Barrel

If you come across it, don't be afraid to try it.

Offshoreaddicted 11-15-2016 03:48 PM

Makers Mark and Crown

Airslot 11-15-2016 03:51 PM

It was Evan Williams Small Batch 1792. Two mentions in this thread. It's "cheap", but I agree that its pretty good.
