Also, experiment with water and ice. 2 fingers of Makers Mark tastes drastically different with 2 drops of spring water added. Just 2 drops completely changes the flavor.

It's the same with ice. One big ice cube or chilled bourbon steel (do yourself a favor and don't use small/normal ice cubes) will completely change the flavor.

It's a lot of fun to experiment. For instance Makers 46 that's aged with French oak staves in the barrel for more spice- I don't care for it neat at all. But add 2 drops of water and I'll gladly drink it all day- the difference is that noticeable.

I also really like that Angels Envy Rye but its a bit pricey in my opinion for what it is.

I was able to grab a George T. Stagg, a William Larue Weller and an Elijah Craig 12 with age statement yesterday. I'm a very happy camper

Agreed. Just noticed his was the rye which is $80 bottle. I buy the one finished in the port wine barrels about $48 here.

I am sad to report I was so busy yesterday I couldn't think about bourbon. However, it seems I will be moving back to Louisville soon. Should make it easier to find some good stuff.

Picked up some 1792 bourbon....enjoyed it way too much while catching rockfish off the dock until 2:30am on Friday evening. Saturday morning was rough.

Do this....smoke a cigar and 1/2.....drink 3/4 of a bottle of bourbon....don't brush your teeth (cause you passed out) and then report back what your mouth feels like in the morning. That punching bag thing in the back of my mouth...let's just say it was swollen, raw and completely int he way of mouth breathing.

you found 2 different BTAC whiskeys just sitting there on a shelf?!?!!!

around the DC-area, that's pretty much the equivalent of buying a winning powerball ticket...in nearly 10+ years of searching, i've never seen one "in the wild" on a retail shelf.

I guess I need to stop in and discuss the finer points of testing the William Larue Weller, this week...

Kinda but not exactly.

I am pretty loyal to one store (for the most part) and they had a customer who had these two bottles and didn't want them for whatever reason so he left them for the store owner to sell.

He was asking crazy money but I was the only one who knew about this bottle of George T Stagg....and since the store I frequent is a small mom and pop, they don't believe in the secondary market so they didn't even mention it to people.

He finally, after 6 months of me asking, came down to what I thought was a reasonable price and when I was about to walk out he said I guess I will give him the bottle of WLW back....I stopped and said HUH? Bought it for the same price.

Hit up a new trendy restaurant in downtown St. Pete a couple wks ago and tried a couple offerings from Japan. Suntory Coffee Malt and Suntory Hakushu 12year. Although not bourbon, both are excellent. I rarely find something that I need to run out and get, but I just had to have a bottle of the 12yr Hakushu. My new personal fav.

I've heard of a Pappy sighting in DC. Wants a premium though

I just spit out my Flor de Cana and diet reading this! I love this place. We go to Park Tavern on Atlantic Ave, Delray to try some of their Bourbons. Usually can't remember what I had though.

Went to what is normally a decent liquor store to grab a specific seasonal beer and a bottle of angels envy. Didn't have either. This followed me home I stead, though. Very happy with this purchase. I WILL be a repeat customer.

i used to recommend Evan Williams single barrel to anyone looking for their first "sipping" quality whiskey. It used to be a tremendous value at around $25. Now I think it's around $40 which puts it in a class with lots of other stuff I like, so I haven't picked up a bottle in a few years. I think I need to try a bottle again soon.

I cracked a bottle of the Old Grand Dad 114 last night. Good, not great. Little too much rye for my tastes, but it did mellow out a bit when the ice started to slightly melt. So, I guess it got better as the drink got lower. Neat may be a different animal, little too much heat for me, but that's what 114 will get you.

let it sit now without touching it for about 2 or 3 weeks and see if it changes.
