Odarby's in Rock Hell had a bottle of it a week ago. It's about 20 minutes south of Charlotte. I have yet to find a better bourbon selection in all of North or South Carolina.

I gotta disagree, I like the Knob Creek a little better then the Evan Willams. The KC has a bit more of a Kentucky kiss to it up front but follows up nicely. I wouldn't turn down a EW but if I have a choice.....

Anytime you're tasting a single barrel product, there's every chance that you may get a bad barrel. QC is good but not infallible. On the rare occasions where I've been invited to test for store picks, it's amazing to me how different several barrels of different batches of the same mash bill can taste.

I may have missed the post, but has anyone tried Rabbit Hole small batch yet?

I'll have to grab a bottle of the KC single bbl, looks tasty! Hey Keith, I might be cruising the Ct river to Essex Island in the coming weeks. Do you do the Ct river?

Word to the wise - don't ever drink Stagg Jr. neat from an acrylic glass. It took less than 2 minutes for it to dissolve the bottom from the sides - completely melted away. Lucky for me I had both a backup pour and a real glass.

Yikes! I’m no expert, but having a quality pour like Stagg Jr in an acrylic cup sounds like some kind of “bourbon blasphemy,” no?

That must have been the first run of Stagg Jr. That stuff was straight rocket fuel.

That is scary, because...

Most acrylics plastics I know are not soluble in ethyl alcohol. Where did you get this "Stagg" bourbon?

Given how it came apart, I think the glass was a two-piece, with the cylinder glued to the base, since it was virtually a clean separation. Probably just ate the glue and the weight of the bottom was enough to separate it. It was 131 proof. My new bottle is only 129.5.

Acrylic plastic parts aren't usually glued, they are solvent-welded, so the joint is just more acrylic plastic. .Wondering what happened with your glass faulty weld?.

No Ct, we're in New London. We winter in Old Saybrook but we won't be there till early Oct.
We're pretty booked up with day trips for this month.
Our next out and about trip is Block for the week of Labor Day.
If you're ever in the New London area give me a heads up and we'll leave a light on for ya, with a glass of the flavor of the week of course.
Can't go wrong with the KC, and I was surprised the price point was only around $50.
I managed to find another bottle of Weller's Antique 107 this weekend. The price has jumped. If I remember right the first bottle I got a couple months ago was around $25, the bottle I got Fri was $40.
If they keep cranking the price up they're gonna have to replace that screw top with a cork.
Still a very good wheat bourbon.

Sounds like a plan, Yeah we have an AC issue on the new craft so we cancelled the Essex trip for the weekend. If the Admiral isn't happy, its not a good trip lol!

$40 is still a good price on the 107 as far as I can find in my area.

I love that 107, easily my favorite daily pour. The allocation of 107, however, is a royal pain in the ass.

You ain't kiddin. I've been looking for awhile and even started chking stores I don't normally frequent with no luck, and this bottle just popped up at one of my regular stops. Even at the higher price I would have bought 2 or 3 bottle but they only had the one.

So last night was my co-worker's annual bourbon bash. Tried plenty of new ones and a new 132.2 proof version of my favorite Stagg Jr.

I had Weller 107 for the first time. Unfortunately for me (or Weller) it was the last pour and I wasn't too impressed. It was okay, but if I have to drive an hour to get hard to find bottles, it won't make the list.

I much preferred the Smooth Ambler both the bourbon and the rye.

Michter's 10 year was tasty but not as good as the Toasted Barrel finish rye - I will buy more of that if I can find it.

Whistle Pig Farmhouse Rye was as good as I expected

Ocean's cask strength has got to be the weakest and most tasteless cask strength ever.

Basil Hayden dark rye had some flavor but don't think it would ever be my go to pour.

Buffalo Trace had a decent light pour made with rice. Not bad but I won't be buying a bottle

EH Taylor had a four grain bottled in bond that was worthy.

Had a different version of Barrel cask strength and it was decent. Had a bottle of 4 Roses Single barrel select that I liked.

He passed around small samples of van Winkle 20 year and it was just okay.

here are a few pics of the carnage

This thread has slipped all the way to page 26 . . . can't let that happen!

Beantownsouth - got to O'Darby's last week - the first one on the exit toward York - got Angel's Envy Rye, OGD 114, and 1792 Full Proof - all were on the shelf! They were out of Weller Antique 107 but said the only reason they had it was because they had bought a barrel . . .

freedbaby - won't be too long before I will be visiting our new office down in your 'hood . . .
