Damn, how am I just seeing this thread?
Well, better late than never.

Blanton's is my favorite everyday bourbon, but it's hit or miss in terms of getting it up here in MN.
I just got some Eagle Rare for the first time, and I found it to be pretty nice.
Also, a friend gave me a bottle of Orphan barrel Rhetoric 22 year a month or so ago that I just opened the other day. I thought it was pretty good, but not $100 good.
Here's a picture some others I have accumulated. A friend of mine used to own a couple of liquor stores, so he was able to help be get some of the stuff I couldn't normally find up here. Still never tried Pappy's though.

That was also given to me by my buddy with the liquor stores. It was given to him by a a guy who worked at a distillery. I've never actually tried it. My recollection is that it was some weird shit. I'll give him a call and get back to you.

Great thread! I got a lot of new suggestions to try and since I've started drinking it neat, I'm excited about trying a Glencairn glass! I will admit if I'm mixing it with Coke, Jim Beam, Jack or Rebel Yell will do. My favorite is WL Weller which is tough to find in the Northeast but I grab a bottle whenever I am down south. I'm glad we can buy Four Roses again because I like that quite a bit. I've been buying small batch bourbon lately to drink straight. I tried Jim Beam's Signature recently and was pretty pleasantly surprised, Tin Cup not so much, and two thumbs up to Makers 46. I also like Bookers, Basil Hayden's and Buffalo Trace. All this talk of whiskey is making me thirsty but I'm still workin! lol

I've never seen Elijah Craig 23 ever in my life. Let me know how it is when you open it...or I can come over for myself and try it.

I'm fairly new to bourbon, well except that time when I was 17 and drank a good amount of Jack Daniels and got so sick I couldn't stomach the smell of bourbon until about 5 years ago (I'm almost 50).

My go to is Bulleit rye for old fashioned and Manhattans. Have had Angels envy (ok), Bulleit 10 year (good), knob creek (ok) and Coursair triple smoke (not my thing).

Just picked up some Blanton's at the local grocery store for $45, seems like that is always available here In CA. Looking forward to trying some of the suggestions here.

Blantons for $45 is one HELL of a price. Buy all you can at that level and be happy you did!

Finding it for under $60 by me is a heck of a buy.

How is it that liquor prices vary so much?

I picked up the store selected single barrel for $49?

The EH Taylor Single Barrel is pretty regularly available for us, saw that it was on your list in one of the earlier posts in this thread. If you want me to grab you a bottle next time I see some, let me know!

Default Awesome thread

I started reading this thread and got a HO for some different types of bourbons and other liquors. Went to the store and this is what I ended up with. Looking forward to trying them slowly. Cheers.

That V5 vodka is pretty good but this is a bourbon thread.

The Four Roses is pretty good stuff - I bought 4 cases of the stores private label single barrel stuff this time last year. Gifts and personal consumption and all..........

A friend of mine had a bottle of Pappy 23 that I saw on his counter and he just e-mailed me that he just got another bottle. He has the best collection of Pappy and other hard to get bourbons that I have ever seen. Now I am waiting for him to crack that first bottle of Pappy.

The funny thing is when he goes out of town he needs to put the Pappy 23 in his guns safe because it is more valuable and harder to get then most of his guns.

I'm working my way through a bottle right now. As of last fall it was still available at the distillery if you don't balk at the sticker shock. I can check and ship if you are serious.

Bought a Jim Beam Straight Rye today...never had it and I thought it might be good for a cheap old fashioned.

Well the verdict is that it's hardly even drain worthy!! Terrible.

Same here. When I can get it, usually in Wisconsin, it's always $60.

A bit one dimensional- most all of the really old stuff is really oak dominant. But it's SO smooth.

I'm not an expensive bourbon connoisseur usually so I'm not the best taste tester. But I really really like it.

Was around $250 a year ago. If you are serious I'll call distillery tomorrow- they are 30 minutes from me.
