Mine's an outboard and on trailer. If no ice, I can still go anytime. Should have at least 8 more weeks or more

Craash420 10-15-2016 11:48 AM

We already tried, not one of us can keep quiet.

What is this "winterize" of which you speak?

jobowker 10-15-2016 06:03 PM

The boat is winterized & shrinkwrapped, jet skis done as well, pool shut down, and blew out the sprinkler lines. Last item is to put the lawnmower away and move the snowblower into the garage.

You don't shrinkwrap your stuff? Maybe I should look into your covers for next year.

I kept in slip from Mar 1 to Nov 1 for 20 years. Sometimes had to run AC and space heater to keep warm. I thought that was boating. Great memories other than the weather.

Still several more weeks left in the water but the end of season does loom. Ordered these parts for day one of what will end up being week or more of boat work days on routine maintenance and does not include fixing what might need fixing, before she is wrapped up for Winter and ready to swim again in the Spring. The faithful old girl has worked hard this year with 220+ hours of engine run time, hundreds of fish came in over the rail, dozens of divers rolled off the rail, many a barley pop was enjoyed. Biggest in water issue so far this year was the pressure switch failing on my raw water wash down pump. I sucsesfully by-passed the switch at sea with a couple of wire nuts and some electrical tape and 10 minutes later had the pump operational.

The boat deserves some well earned TLC.

When I look at the list of all the things I need to accomplish in terms of just routine engine maintenece and boat care on my relatively simple, S/E twenty five footer, I am left in a state of awe for those with big boats that see a lot of use and are owner maintained. Keeping up with 2 or more engines and a much bigger hull with more bells and whistles to attend to has to be a massive undertaking each year.

I can't even imagine what my annual costs would be to keep my boat turn key paying someone to do all the work, for those that can and do, this Bud's for you .......

It was 82F today! I don't pull the boat until Debbie @ Bass Haven calls me and kindly asks me to get the boat out. I've had to break ice numerous times to get my trailer boat down the ramp....beware that the ice will rip the tail lights off of your trailer!

RGrew176 10-17-2016 10:45 PM

Don't need a moment of silence. Winter is for saving up $$ so I can boat all summer, also a time to get stuff fixed. 7 months of boating with a 5 month layover. Could be worse.

Fubar512 10-17-2016 10:58 PM

There's no need for as moment of silence. Winterization isn't all that bad, as long as it's done properly, and involves a long boat ride south
