Default Night sights on pistols?

I have at least 4 pistols with night sights on them. At first, I thought they were pretty cool. Now though, they don't always seem to make sense. I mean. for a nightstand gun and/or a carry gun then absolutely. For a range or competition gun, I have a harder time acquiring the front sight quickly.

I recently sent my CZ SP-01 to Cajun Gun works for their Pro Package as well as a few other things. While in there, I had them change the front night sight to a fiber optic. Haven't shot it yet but just playing with it, I like it a lot better. I have a P07 with a competition sight on it and I like it too.

Any thoughts from you pro's?

Exactly like you said, night sights are for nightstand guns (also like them on my pistol I carry when hunting as it helps with dispatching armadillos on the walk from the woods). There are much better options for range and competition guns.

I was just noticing the other day that the standard white dot sights on my Sig P220 are not as white as they used to be. Perhaps some alcohol and Q-tip might clean some of the 28 year old debris, but then again, my eyes aren't what they were 28 years ago either. So, I was thinking that I might send the slide to Sig Sauer to have install a set of their SIGLITEs. If I'm not mistaken, I think these are made by Trijicon for Sig, or at least they used to be. Anyway, I'm hoping that I'll be able to see the sights more clearly when shooting.

Anybody try just a front night sight. I have one pistol with just the front and it seems to acquire targets faster, especially close targets as would be the case in a home defense situation. Just kinda point and shoot.

I've tried them all.

big dots
two dot
three dot
plain
front dot only
wide notch
narrow notch
front bead

Each have pros and cons. Distance, accuracy and speed are all factors to consider.

Best thing to do is to stick to similar sights on all your pistols and train as much as you can. Trigger control is far more important than sight picture.

I like 3 dots, but use Trijicon HD's (which I really like) on my carry pistol

These are expensive but look nice with both fiber optic and tritium. I plan to try them

I have tried a few enhanced and night sights. I like the Ameriglo CAP sights below as I get tritium on the front sight as well as a bright orange or yellow area to focus on quickly during daylight...It helps my aging eyes lock onto the sights quickly.

For night sights as well as day sights, I think it's helpful to have the front sight a different color then the rear. Thanks for the responses. One thing I've run in to is that It seems a lot of sight manufacturers cover the more popular pistols like Glock etc, they don't always have the same sights for CZ's. And no Cracker, I'm not switching brands, lol

Thank you sir but it's a gen 3. The CAP sights are my favorite. I can definitely aquire targets faster and seem to be far more accurate.

It sure looked like it had the extended grip tang on the handle but clearly after the secone picture...nice weapon. Course you can't d much better than a Glock, all the others are just trying to catch up....
