Default Can I just please read the news.

Why is it every news site has gone to video or mostly video? I see a link to an interesting story and its a video, I start reading a story, it has half of the info in it and the rest is in a video. If I do find a link with the actual story in writing there is a huge video of the story on the top of the page. Does anyone read anymore?

I posted this same sentiment a couple months ago.

I hate it. I do not want to see a video I want to read the news.

A link to a video is not journalism.

Most of the things I click on have a video or you can read the article. If it shows a little movie camera then your clicking to see a video in the first place.

Why can't a video be journalism?

Same-same. One of the reasons I still get a newspaper and read it every morning (believe it or not). Although I ain't exactly happy with that either, in fact ANY news these days because -- wait for it --

IT JUST ISN'T NEWS ANYMORE. It all seems to be opinion and bias, not "just the facts, ma'am."

Makes me crazy.

It is up to the owner of the website to do what they want, I don't have to click on it.

But I agree that video only sucks. It is lazy and sinister. How else are you going watch a commercial; hear the station/reporters name over and over.

The newest thing is sponsored content right in the middle of the news headline. The site barely identifies as such.

The worst is one particular station now likes to post their political opinion/agenda in the news section. If you don't look real close, it looks just like another story and some people just take it as fact.

www.weather.com
They don't write ANYTHING anymore - it's all video.
I wanted to see the storm track and had to watch a video/show (along with commercials).
www.wunderground.com is much better at written journalism.

I agree. If I go to a website and it's just video, I don't even bother with it. And I never click on the videos themselves. I can't stand they obligatory 30-second commercial that's in front of the actual video.

It's one thing when a video is included in a story. You have the option to watch it or not. What I hate is when they automatically start playing. I've had tabs hidden while doing something else and all of a sudden I hear someone talking and it's a video that just automatically started up on my hidden tab.

If you watch video you can't watch TV at the same time. I would rather read the news.

Agree completely, purchase 3 newspapers a day so I can read. The new generation only knows how to use a thumb to look for news on their phones. Not even sure they can comprehend what they are looking at as they are too self absorbed. Old type news persons are thing of the past. In depth reporting is long gone. Edward R Morrow, Water, Tom Seifert, Dan Rather, Morley Safer and the rest have been put out to pasture in favor of someone who can read from a prompter and most have no idea what they are reading. Some smile when it is a sad story of banter back and forth with the others on the set while talking about a family that has just gone through a crisis.

A lot of the videos start out with a commercial. Which means $$$
I also hate when you have to click through multiple pages to read a story. But again, each page has different advertisers.
