Seeing as the DJI Phantom 4 comes with a cam already would it be cost effective to return the 3DR Solo and forego the Go-Pro and get a DJI Phantom or stay with the 3DR Solo?

I like the fact that the 3DR Solo has expansion slots as well as the open source. Will I really need all of the gizmos or wiz bangs offered by the DJI?
3dr is more similar to the phantom 3 standard

me 3. I'm super duper happy with it. I'm in Virginia beach and wind is blowing 25-30 and I flew it today no problem. You didn't go wrong at all. For $400, its a great way to step into the hobby. If you're a professional photographer that is shooting for hollywood, it may not be the one for you, but pm me if you don't like it and I'll buy it from you because all my neighbors slept on the deal and now are pissed they didn't get one after playing with mine.

is there any sort of simulator to learn how to fly these things?

I've never done video games and my dexterity for stuff like this is horrible

The DJI's are easy. They are literally fool proof. And yes they do have a simulator to practice. I didn't realize that until after a few flights. I had seen enough videos to show the basics.

I think they messed up and shipped me 3. I'll sell it for whatever I paid. I think it was like $440.

Do you have to use a GoPro? Or are there other cheaper cameras that will work?

I just got mine flying...
short review..
On the crappy side... mine came with some kind of very well known glitch that required to reset the WiFi on the controller. To do this you need to remove a small SD card located inside it.
I'm handy, careful and have some knowledge in electronics and I can tell you it was a pain in the ROYAL back!!! I can see how (if you are not REALLY careful) you can rip something inside the controller trying to deal with this..
Imagine getting a new car, that it does not start and when you call support they tell you you have to remove the starter and put it back...
It worked, but I do not think any end user should have to do that crap to get it running.

On the good side: I have never used one of this big drones and I can assure you it was a piece of cake!!!
The other good thing is that it was pretty windy outside but the damn thing did not seem to care much or be badly affected by the wind.
Only things I hope it gets better is the refresh from the gopro feed seem it looked kind of slow on the phone screen and it also seemed to be trying to get GPS signal all the time...

Very cool toy...

After doing a bit of research on 3DR, I decided it best, I return the 3DR Solo the wife picked up the other day.
I certainly am not looking to upset or cause any drama, but from my research 3DR is, or no longer will be in the business of making drones. They (3DR ) has pretty much pooped the bed and is in the hole several Mil.

If anyone is interested, I will post a link to my findings.

The way I look at it, it's a grown ups toy anyway. When it stops working it stops working. It's not like it's something you're going to pass down to your kids.
