The worst friend ever
Have you ever felt like a lost little puppy.
Let me tell you about the worst friend ever.
I met my friend in 1987 after I finished school and moved to Virginia.
We had some things in common and soon figured out we both liked drinking and running around.

We were each others crutches as we both worked through some life challenges when we were growing up. That made and strengthened a friendship that would stand the test of time.

We were there for each other during good times and bad.
We drank more beer and told more jokes, stories, cut up and had more fun fishing, four wheeling, shooting, hunting or just floating down a river than many of our other friends combined. I can't say very many people cared to even try and keep up with us.

We could screw somethings up majorly and laugh at each others blunders and at the same time make everything workout alright.

We were there for each others weddings. We were there for each other and traveled many miles taking care of each of our families needs.

We were there for families funerals, friends funerals. What ever the need or circumstance we were there. When I nearly died and woke up in the hospital he was there.

If there is one person in the world that you could count on being there for whatever the need, anything at all you were it.
We were like twins at times we didn't go anywhere or do anything without the other.
As time goes on and as families grow as jobs change so do friendships but we both knew each other was there for the other.
I found my wife and he found his. He worked hard to support his family and he found it hard to say no to anyone in need.

We both settled down just a little bit. We were still right there if the need would arise.

If either of us were having a really bad day all it took was a phone call and soon the laughter replaced the grumbling.

We never in all the years had a bad thing to say to each other.
I can't think of a moment when either of us were upset with the other.
I can't say that about anyone else in this world.

Right now I'm feeling like that lost puppy wondering who I am going to turn to.

Greg,
Thank you for a great run that lasted almost 30 years. You were my rock, my go to friend.
Life is to short and in my opinion you left here to soon at 48 years old.
I sure am going to miss you.

God that sucks - I am so sorry for your loss. We all (hopefully) have a similar friend in our lives - your post made me think of mine. Remember the good times, I'm sure that's what your buddy would want!

Sorry to read this Thumper. Almost exactly one year ago my oldest buddy of 35 years died of cancer at age 42. Life will go on, it just likely won't be as much fun and with fewer laughs. Stay strong buddy.

Keeping you in my prayers. I too have a friend like that and couldn't imagine what it will be like for either of us when that day comes. Hopefully, you can remember all of the good times to get you through. Definately a bro hug coming your way....

What a sad time for you. Hang in there and keep him in your prayers.

I also have a friend like that. We have been best friends since 1968. He still smokes and I hope I do not lose him due to that.

That blows. My best fishing buddy is on round 50 or whatever of chemo for esophageal cancer. It's been three years since he told me he had to cut the fishing trip short to see the doctor for a lump when he swallowed.

Down to last weeks now. What do you say to the guy?
