Default NYPD: We Donít Know How Much Cash We Seize,

More civil asset forfeiture b.s. unreal.

"NYPD brass testified before the New York City Council Thursday that it has no idea how much money it seizes from citizens each year using civil asset forfeiture, and an attempt to collect the data would crash its computer systems,"

Jesus not another ignorant posting bashing police. So Einstein....you think a drug dealer should be allowed to keep the say $50k when he gets caught carrying it and 2 kilos of coke?

Of the heroin dealer that has $100k stuff under his mattress when the police have a search warrant and never had a real job in his life or proof of any legitimate income?

You act they they personally get to keep it, IT HELPS LOWER YOUR TAXES MR I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL I'M TALKING ABOUT. The agencies can in some cases keep a portion of it to say buy a new patrol car. That's funds YOU the tax payers don't have to come up with via sales, property taxes. That liberal POS rag reason website you reference is full of shit. Read the last few paragraphs, do you not see the amounts reported? That in and of itself proves the story is bullshit.

Hint, I'm sure 90% of the world would have a problem letting the scumbags keep the illegally obtained money.

GO BACK IN YOUR HOLE....or don't you have a BLM rally to attend?

so you're ok if you're driving down the road with say 10 k in cash and you get stopped and the cops confiscate it? then its up to you to prove them wrong, hire a lawyer and get it all back? You don't think the money should be accounted for? No transparency? I'll refrain from name calling .

What about civil forfeiture if no crime is being committed?

ETA: If they do confiscate money they should be able to account for every single dollar.

Wrong answer. Civil forfeiture does not only affect drug dealers, but keep giving up liberty in exchange for some government security and never question government authority since Nancy Regan tells you drugs are bad mmkay...

All the above (well except the Nancy thing, I didn't understand it.)

But yes, civil forfeiture is BS.

Go bash cops somewhere else.

F anyone the cops have to deal with who has a large amount of money on them of which they have no way to account for legitimately.

People complaining about cops when this happens to about 0.0000001% of the people wrongly is dumb, anti-American and Wingerism at its finest.

You can't be serious.

It happens so often out here folks say it changed the meaning of the old saying "highway robbery".

Maybe your Bing is broken.

Read about this often enough to say I agree....

While I support the boys in blue there should be complete accountability...

My experience is that forfeiture of any kind is very complicated IN FLORIDA

The owner can request a hearing within 20 or 30 days (something like that)
We NEVER seized property without a crime being involved
Many times the property is returned

Again, we never seized at my department unless it was so show connected with a crime (money in a drug house, money on burglar, car seized that was used in commission of a Felony etc).

I can see it might be a little tough to know where forfeitures are money wise due to many times things are returned by a judge, so dunno but they should be able to produce a report...

Somewhere in these pages are other threads on this very subject, it's not isolated cases.
