Sad news for his family and community.

Don't let the opportunity pass to remind yourself to wear your seatbelt and not drive distracted.

I haven't seen the show in years but Gabe was one of my favorite characters. Very tragic.

Washington State Patrol report explains the Friday morning wreck which killed the Port Angeles native.
PAUL GOTTLIEBFri Sep 16th, 2016 5:05p

PORT ANGELES — Gabe Rygaard, a reality TV star and former Clallam County commissioner candidate, was killed in a 9:22 a.m. wreck involving three vehicles on U.S. Highway 101 a quarter-mile east of Laird Road, west of Port Angeles.

Rygaard’s father, Craig, confirmed this afternoon that his son, a Port Angeles native and a 1989 Port Angeles High School graduate, died in the crash. He was 45.

Clallam Fire District No. 2 Assistant Chief Dan Huff reported that the driver of a Ford Bronco died at Olympic Medical Center as a result of injuries from the wreck.
Huff reported that a total of seven people in three vehicles were injured in the wreck.
All the others sustained only minor injuries, were treated at the scene and were released.

The State Patrol later identified Rygaard as the driver of the Bronco.
According to the State Patrol, Rygaard’s 1995 Ford Bronco was behind a black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east in the second lane of U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 243.
The Tahoe started slowing to a stop, said the report, and Rygaard’s Bronco veered to the left and struck the rear of the Tahoe.
The Bronco rotated and struck a Dodge Ram van, which was traveling west in the opposing lane.
The State Patrol report said Rygaard was not wearing a seat belt.

Eleven personnel responded from District 2 along with an engine, two ambulances and a command vehicle, Huff said.
Lanes of Highway 101 were closed until about 3 p.m. and traffic was detoured near Laird Road.
Rygaard ran as a Republican in the primary for the District 2 county commissioner seat being vacated by Mike Chapman. He did not advance from the Aug. 2 primary to the general election.
He was featured on History Channel’s recently canceled reality TV series “Ax Men.”

His family-owned Rygaard Logging Inc. was featured on the show.
Rygaard was owner-operator of of Rygaard Logging Inc. and owner of Ryfield Properties Inc. in Port Angeles and Penny Creek Quarry in Quilcene.

Dang 2 reality guys killed, what are the odds? I liked Darrell because he didn't take no crap from anyone. I liked Gabe but that's because I liked watching him blow up and throw his hard hat! Wow when Gabe would go off he would really go off! I wonder how is snotty son feels about Gabe now?

Very, very sad.

Who doesn't wear a seat belt these days? Isn't it a habit? I just don't get it.

Nasty. I am a few miles from the accident scene. I have been on that stretch of highway hundreds of times.

Strange accident, there are two east bound lanes at the accident site, plenty of room for overtaking vehicles to pass the slower ones in the right hand lane. The road is coming out of a canyon and it is uphill driving, with some curves.

I would like to know the rest of the story, Gabe may have been distracted by something as he was overtaking the slower vehicle.

Not wearing a seat belt? No excuse. On the same level as not wearing a PFD in the boat.

I don't. Seat belts, motor cycle helmets, etc. Should be free choice.

Don't tread on me. Call me stupid, whatever, it's my choice.

Don't tell me about insurance costs until we can inspect your diet and exercise routines.

Not to be heartless but his seat belt probably wouldn't fit. I always figured he would go out with a heart attack.

Geez he wasn't that big, of course it would fit. The seatbelt fits my MIL and she is way larger than Gabe is.

As pissed off as he would get screaming like a nut and throwing his hard hat I also figured it would be a heart attack that would get him.

Clearly you can make that choice, but what os the possible upside to not wearing a seat belt? Listening to the Ding Ding Ding? Some things just make so much sense. Not trying to pick i fight, genuinely curious what someone would choose not to wear a belt?

Yes it's your choice but I think a little differently than you. I have people that count on me so I try to stay safe more for them than for myself.

Also, a seat belt keeps you're butt planted in the drivers seat during a spin allowing you to maintain control of your vehicle, so it does affect others.
