Prepper

I see the commercial all the time; "You may not be a prepare now, but you will be".
So here's my question. Let's just say
you know someone with a generous supply of ammo. Everything looks good for a "zombie apocalypse" if you need to protect your home
But what if you need to "bug out" for higher ground or to a safer place? How do you get all your ammo from one place to another?
Do you load you family down with backpacks? What is your plan?

Good question. I guess you need to buy double the ammo so that your "bug out" location is already stocked. There used to be a show on TV about preppers. I think most of those people have mental problems though. I think they would be disappointed to live a long, healthy life that skipped over a complete breakdown of society.

My buddy is a full on over the top prepper. Marine, bounty hunter, educated and seems well grounded...
He owns 80 acres in the mountains, has water, farm, structures built from connex boxes welded together, enough ammo for a small army.
He's ready for just about anything.
If he can get there. 5 hours thru 3 cities, then limited mountain roads for the last 80 miles... All good if he can actually get there.

Never considered myself a prepper. Well, until components left the shelves in '08.
Now, I keep about 20k primers and 100 lbs of powder on hand to feed my shooting habit through droughts.

The Admiral used to wonder about me and 'stuff' I buy. Then the earthquake in Haiti. She understands now.
I had to stop reading some of the survivor and prepper websites I am a member of. Some of them are WAY too far out there for me. And, some of the gun sites I belong to specifically ban any references to TEOTWAWKI.
When I die, my kids are going to say WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING with all this crap.

The acronym gave it away.

I have some loose ammo around the house but most of mine are in ammo cans and a few wooden mortar boxes I got from the surplus store. We also buried 15000 rounds at my deer camp in a old fridge we sprayed inside and out with spray foam then rhino liner then welded shut. All I gotta do is make it to deer camp and we have a plan.

Actually, we are in a good location. Shallow well for plenty of water, within 2 blocks of a salt-water canal for fishing, and we always have plenty of stuff-hurricane country ya know...and the house is constructed with filled concrete blocks.

Bug out to unaffected location.
A realistic amount of ammo, water, food and fuel.
It is all a balance. It is funny when you meet a prepper who is 400lbs who can't walk up a flight of stair but is worried about the end of the world. Be realistic about threats that you are facing.
