Default Triple checking Holster laws

Getting another Holster for my J-frame S&W air weight and just making sure that here in FL the holster does NOT need a retention strap correct?

Been searching now for 30 minutes and nothing I see states that it does. Just making sure before I push the order button!

Do you have a valid concealed weapon permit? Might make a difference in the answer to your question.

So your going to chastise a fellow CC holder for asking a simple question to make 100% of the answer...... Feels good to be a dork doesn't it. troll elsewhere!

do not think he was chastising you... Do not know the guy, but it seemed a valid question.
He even said that at the end of the post... "Might make a difference in the answer to your question."

Think you are a little sensitive... JMHO

I don't think a guy with 9767 posts is a troll

Well, I would assume the opening poster has a chl considering the nature of his question.

Ok, not a troll in a sense, but the very nature of the question is leading, period! No other way to look at it. What difference does it make if I have a CCP or not.

Still amazes me that a lot if folks look for fights where there is none!

Could someone please answer the question?

I was going to ask the same question, because it does matter.

If you have a CCP and carrying on your person then I can't find where a retention strap is needed, since you are not even required to carry in a holster on your person, but if you're carrying in your vehicle then a snapped holster would be needed to maintain "securely encased".

Some method of retention is good, but not a legal requirement - people carry them just in a pocket sometimes.

Yarcraft...

I apologize for my snipe, could have sworn you were looking to bash me for not knowing the rules. I just need to be 100% certain before I pull the trigger on a holster from DM Bullard.
Again, my sincere apologies sir!

So.....

If I have the pistol on my belt while driving my truck, the holster must have a retention strap in the state of FL......correct?

No, only if you are not wearing it. Even then though it is not completely clear if a retention strap is considered a secure compartment.

Crazy...

I am currently on-line with 5 LEO's from FL and they all have different opinions!!! WTF
Even my two brothers say that this law is very arbitrary and can be and is viewed many different ways in many jurisdictions throughout the state.

I think I'm just going to insert a 38 bullet manually into my temple at this point...the noise scares me...LOL

On your person, no strap or holster needed.

I have the following saying otherwise...

State Trooper
Local LEO

I have gotten many more replies to this question on other sites, most all are telling me the strap is not needed while wearing, either in the car or not.
But.....

If the gun is in the vehicle, not being worn and is out of plain site, but not in some sort of compartment, i.e.: on the seat but under a jacket, than it must have a strap.

I'm just going to order it with the strap and be done with this.

Thanks everyone!

This is where it matters if you have a CWL or not.

If you don't have a CWL, weapon must be securely encased. Holster with strap meets that definition.

If you have a CWL, no strap needed.

If you have a CCW from and in FL, you can throw it in your pocket, purse, waist band, man bag whatever without anything (not good practice IMHO). You can carry it on your person any way you like as long as its concealed. In your vehicle, with no ccw its supposed to be securely encased, box, glovebox, holster, safe.

No worries. I've regretted a post or two myself.
