Default F%&* the Brazilian Police

A few of our swimmers say they got robbed at gun point. They didn't call the police but talked to their parents and it got into the news. The Brazil Police see the news and start investigating and are now won't allow 3 of our swimmers to leave the country. Nobody got hurt and nobody wants your input (Braz. police).

Here's a suggestion: Quit being big puzzies going after easy targets where there's no story. How about you pose as outside security forces and drive down that street where our forces took machine gun fire (and we lost 1 soldier) and go after a real threat.

Holding them is BS. But they are saying that they have video of them coming home that night and they put all their stuff in the little tray before you go through the scanner. Hope this isn't true as it will look bad if the boys made the story up. Rio is a total S^&t hole.

Whether the robbery story is true or false, Ryan Lochte did the smart thing to get out of Rio and go home. Why the other 3 swimmers decided to stay puzzles me.

The video clearly shows them coming home at a very different time and they sure don't look like four people who just had a gun stuck in their face. I thought they had reported the robbery and the judge picked up on the time issue. Don't know what happened but it sure looks like they made up the story. I would assume making up a story like this and lying to the police is a crime so we will see what happens.

The story I just read says this:
1. The athletes did not report the robbery to US Olympic officials.
2. The athletes did not report the robbery to Brazilian police.
3. Ryan Lochte told his mother about the incident.
4. Lochte's mother revealed the incident to the public.
5. The Brazilian police got wind of item #4 and questioned the athletes, whose stories were a little different than the story Lochte told his mother, but they all claimed they had been robbed.
6. Ryan Lochte went home.
7. The Brazilian police decided to seize passports so they could further investigate what they were told..

When I first heard the story I didn't believe it. Seems very sketchy

Lochte seems a little shifty, even in his interview with B. Bush on Today show. I think he seemingly wanted to come off as a tough guy. I haven't seen the others that are being constrained.

It is a huge deal to keep a US citizen from traveling back home. I'm surprised charges are not required to do that.

I have been held ad gunpoint in Venezuela a few years ago. I felt lucky to walk away, but I don't think I acted differently than normal after an hour or so, so I'm not sure their behavior when going through security is telling of much.

I think they were probably doing something they were not supposed to be and trying to hide/cover it up, but what the hell do I know.

Said they had their wallets taken by "cop" robbers. However, when they came back video shows them checking in their wallets. Someone is lying.

Rio has some of the most corrupt politicians, police, and judges in the world. They(the US swimmers)admitted they had been drinking, so I don't have a problem with the inconsistencies in their story.
I don't have a problem with believing they were robbed either...and that it may well have been police officers.
Rio is the anus of the South American continent.

Apparently he does, or at least did. The show is (was) called "What Would Ryan Lochte Do?" on the E! channel.

Like it or not, the Rio police are doing what most American police forces would do. These guys stated they were robbed but their story doesn't add up. The authorities need their input to conduct an investigation. On the surface, it sounds like these guys lied.

If they did, they are idiots.

even more that than...they stated they were robbed by men claiming to be cops! any law enforcement agency worth it's salt had better damned well be investigating those types of claims.

I agree with the above, but with a slight twist. I think they were indeed robbed, but they embellished the story about how - for example - who's emotion is "whatever" with a gun pointed to their head?

I did hear today though that it could take "weeks" to get formal statements for the other 2 left in the country? How is that possible - should take a day or two - max.

Also hearing a lot about how they cannot find the cab or cab driver - well duh, the cabbies are usually in on these schemes.

That probably means repeated interviews asking the same questions of all 3 swimmers in Brazil, Do their stories agree and do their stories change or stay the same?

RIo is a lot bigger than New York City and the swimmers can't even remember the color of the cab. It may not even have been a registered cab (assuming Rio even has such a thing). I don't expect police could find the cab or driver.

Other than their word, there is no proof of that. even though you "think" they were, there is real police work going on there.
