Default Anybody been to Thailand lately?

I've got an upcoming business trip to Bangkok and Phuket and I've trying to find a few things to do in my spare time, but everything online is about temples and shrines. Is there any great places to eat or must see's while I'm there? I'll be there for 2 weeks but the wife will be around for only a week so if there are day trips I can send her on while I'm in meetings that will be good too. A bunch of us are bringing our significant others so no, they won't be wandering alone.

I can't help you Leeroy, but that's two cities that shouldn't be mentioned consecutively

Check out some of their Beaches. http://gothailand.about.com/od/topde...tenbeaches.htm

Wife and I were planning to go this year also until she saw this video, I don't know that it is as safe as it was a few years back. Oh yeah she also just watched NGEO special and they focused on the wild Indochinese tigers. that was a deal breaker for her.

Haven't been to Thailand since 1993, no updated intel but I would take note of the following.

I don't care if you wash, gargle, shower in and piss Tobasco Sauce, steer clear of food described as " Thai Spicy". Some of the peppers they use (tiny) are a weapons grade chemical munition. Swear to God, I thought my head was going to EXPLODE one night in Pataya Beach after making the mistake of ordering a seafood soup with the "Thai Spicy" option. BIG MISTAKE both upon consumption and shredding the shower curtain a few hours later while sitting on the honey bucket.

An entirely different degree of "HOT" then anything I had experienced before or since.

Kloster Beer was dirt cheap and tasty by my standards.

Spent a LOT of time in the P.I. And loved it but Patya IMO took things up a notch or 2.

If you're going to Bangkok, I hear Phuket is high on the list of things to do while you're there.

We'll be there for a weekend. Hopefully going to take a boat tour. Finally going to put my Marriott points to good use. My wife is always asking to come on my trips and I'm glad this one lines up with her schedule it's a bucket list one for her.

We're staying right on the beach Friday-Sunday

I'm not worried about that kind of stuff. I've been to Asia a few times and those guys only come up to my waist. I'm not afraid to drop one with a judo chop.

In all seriousness it is a business trip, there is a travel advisory but we always have security and the local staff usually shows us around. I've never been to a country where I didn't have a native showing me the ropes and giving me an insider tour.

I hear you can get good ink done there

Can't help you now. It's been 50 years
Take rain gear. Hot humid and wet

Phù Cát in August
Low Season Month

Along with June and July this is also a good rainy season month to consider visiting Phuket. Rainfall often comes in short intense bursts punctuated with periods of sunshine.
A fair chance of sunny weather between showers, low season prices and smaller numbers of tourists can make August a pleasant time to be there.
