De - fraging Apple I-Pads

I have a second gen I-Pad, it's slower than slow! I know how to clear the history, but how do I wipe out crap I don't need? This was given to me a while back and it's loaded with games, Facebook, and other garbage I will never use. Any ideas!

Thanks

You can remove apps by touching the app for a few seconds. Then a little x will be in the right hand corner so you can delete.

Just restore it to factory settings and start over.

Also, double tap the home button and it will show apps running in the background. Slide up to remove them from running in background.

Do this, it will help to clear out cache and data and stuff in the background. But overall It is only slow because you're used to the faster ones - this will only help a bit.

I have the same thing, and going to use it on the boat as an extra nav screen. Cost more for the sea sucker mount and the lifeproof case than I could sell it for, but still cheaper than a 10" chartplotter.

How do I do that?

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap on Erase All Content and Setting

The round button in the middle and bottom of Ipad.

"I say we (de-)frag that f*cker tonight!"

Parthery 08-17-2016 08:27 AM

First - make a backup, either wirelessly to icloud or by plugging it in to your computer and backing it up through iTunes.

Second - Settings --> General --> Reset --> Erase All Content and Settings. This will restore the device to new "out of the box" status.

Third - use your backup to restore your data.

Perfect, thanks all. Nothing to save though, just want all this crap gone.

Do you have your own Apple ID, or are you still logged in as whoever gave it to you?

Factory reset will get rid of everything with the exception of the apps that are part of the OS. When you press and hold on an app until they start wiggling, anything without the X will still be there when it comes back up from reset.

You'll need an Apple ID to get things going again, and to download any apps. So if you don't already have your own, go ahead and get one now. You won't be able to operate the iPad without one.

Second the recommendation on resetting to factory settings, and to make sure you're running on your own Apple account rather than piggybacking on somebody else's account.

Why not scrub it down, format it and load a fresh OS of your choosing? This method is quick, easy and absolute.

iPads run iOS.

Ready for Pokemon Go then. That is all you need. (Coming from someone who has never downloaded or seen the app, and probably never will.)
