It doesn't exactly say that he crashed into the oncoming car on purpose of if he just got hit????

I hope he did not do that on purpose. Seems like a more rational way would be to pit the car from behind.

ETA: He might not have seen the car coming if it did not have lights on. Hope he makes it.

Holy cow. He is lucky to be alive and that had to hurt. I hope he heals quickly and well.

It sounds like the car was going the wrong way down the highway the cop had no other way to stop him I'm guessing.

Very similar thing happened in Hoover, AL, about 30 years ago. Cop survived, drunk driver (not his first DUI) got killed. Driver's family sued and won a wrongful death suit.

Hope it doesn't happen again.

I am with you there. I was just thinking at 3 am with little or no traffic that he might have been able to pit him. That would be dangerous as well - oncoming traffic, etc. But less likely to cause as serious of injuries as a head on collision. Bad situation all around.

Y'all are correct...He should have purposely sat on the side of the road and just worried about his own safety and his own livelyhood...

BTW He wad dispatched to this, he was not just driving down the road, I am sure after he gets out of ICU the trooper can set my record straight...

Be it intentionally or by accident we can say conclusively this cop stopped this drunk endangering innocent lives.

Had he not stopped this car and drunk went on to kill somebody, folks like you would be bitching cop should have done more.
