Default Which hotel in Ft. Laud/Miami ?

Looking to head down for a weekend in mid July with the family (3 kids). Which would be the best overall hotel that won't break the bank. Local advice of the area would be ideal. Stay up in Ft. Laud or venture south to Miami? Looking to be around $300/night +/-. Walking distance to shops and restaurants would be ideal & easily accessible parking would be at the top of my list as well. Thanks for any help!

- Lago Mar maybe, walking to shops is out though. Parking is good.
- Marriott Harbor Beach. Same as above. Valet.
- Margaritaville for the full Tourista experience. Valet.
- Further up by Commercial it gets cheaper.

We had a blast here one long weekend for a family reunion.

They had kayaks and other beach stuff you could check out (free or cheap) too.

For a family vacation, Lauderdale by the Sea would be where I started looking. Hollywood (Margaritaville) would be choice #2.

Marriott Harbor Beach in FTL. Oceanfront and easy shuttle to Las Olas shops and restaurants.

Stay away from South Beach. I live in Miami Beach and don't go there with my kids!

x2!

The entertainment district, which extends from 5th to 15th streets on Ocean, Collins, and Washington, is now a war zone.

The current police chief and mayor are disasters and their actions have directly caused the skyrocketing crime wave on Miami Beach.

OP, quite honestly, you would have to look really hard to find a nice, safe, clean hotel on Miami Beach in your price range. Best to find somewhere else.

Margaritaville on Hollywood Beach looks to be loads of fun and yes you can find rooms in your price range. This is where I would stay.

We always stay at Marriott beach place towers in ft lauderdale when we go.i think all 2 bedrooms come with a full kitchen and washer/dryer. It's right in the middle of lots or restaurants and behind is a water taxi stop or you can hop on the trolley. Price should be in your ballpark have a great vacation. You can check out the live web cam out front too http://www.sunny.org/webcam/

Mayfair in the Grove falls into the broken bank category but is worth it for a special family event.

I have been on THT for 3 or 4 years now. This is the first time I have ever seen Wiley post. This is really, really cool- like meeting Tattoo from Fantasy Island or that Red Sox player who let the ball go between his legs in the '86 World Series! Fornicating internet legend!

I used to live a block north of the Mayfair. I remember getting drunk in the Grove a hundred times, then walking home and looking up at the balconies of the Mayfair. I always hoped to see a nekkid chick in one of the hot tubs on the balconies, but I never did.

While I have no idea how well the Mayfair stacks up to the much newer Ritz Carlton a few hundred feet away, I gotta say that I would like to spend a weekend in the Mayfair for old times sake.

Nails it with Lago Mar in Ft. Lauderdale. Stayed there since I was a toddler until the folks bought a condo next door at the residences. Doesn't get more family friendly for a reasonable price.

Ive stayed there. They used to give kids a little bag with snacks and sunscreen in it at the front desk.

I like the double tree in lauderdale. Right on the water taxi. Parking is valet.

We stayed here a year ago May. And have had a lot of friends stay also. The place was great, very friendly owners from cape cod., hence the cape room names . We checked in late, around 11pm. The owner took me to the office and offered a drink, wine, beer. I asked for a bloody mary and he said 'let me check'.

we were looking for a place a bit quieter than ft laud beach, with a 5 month old. The room was big and clean. i think we had a studio. nice pools, use of snorkel gear, happy hours, etc. Lauderdale by the sea is a cool little place, its worth a look. And you're not that far from Lauderdale. We got on the water taxi at shooters. check out their FB page for more pics.

When I stay in Fort Lauderdale I do the Hampton Inn and drive to the beach and shopping.
